âLandmanâ fans may have to wait a little longer for the next chapter of the hit Paramount+ series.
Although season 3 of âLandmanâ was renewed in December 2025 and was previously expected to begin filming this spring, star Billy Bob Thornton recently revealed that production is now scheduled to start later than originally anticipated.
During an appearance on the âHowie Mandel Does Stuffâ podcast, Thornton shared that filming for season 3 will begin âat the end of August.â
The update marks a shift from earlier comments made by cast member Sam Elliott, who previously suggested the series would begin filming in April or May 2026.
âIâm excited to see what unfolds in âLandmanâ season 3,â Elliott said previously. âWeâre all kind of looking toward April and May when we start shooting season 3.â
The delay comes after season 2 wrapped in January 2026 following another successful run for the Taylor Sheridan-produced drama.
‘Landman’ Season 3 May Still Arrive Quickly
Despite the later filming start, there are signs that fans may not face a lengthy wait for new episodes.
Director and executive producer Stephen Kay recently told The Hollywood Reporter during its Directors in Focus event that production on the series continues to move quickly behind the scenes.
âWeâre cutting while weâre shooting and so itâll hopefully be out soon,â Kay explained.
The fast-paced production style has become a signature of Sheridanâs television projects, including âSpecial Ops: Lionessâ and âThe Madison.â
Sheridanâs shows have gained a reputation for quick turnarounds between seasons, helping Paramount+ consistently release new episodes without extended gaps.
If âLandmanâ follows the same production pattern as its first two seasons, season 3 could still arrive around November 2026.
The first season debuted in November 2024, while season 2 premiered in November 2025.
Billy Bob Thornton Addresses Exit Rumors
Toward the end of season 2, rumors began circulating online suggesting Thornton might leave the series.
The speculation followed a major storyline involving Thorntonâs character, Tommy Norris.
During the Jan. 11 episode, Tommy was abruptly fired as president of M-Tex Oil by company owner Cami Miller, played by Demi Moore.
The fictional storyline quickly fueled online rumors claiming Thornton could exit the series after two seasons.
Thornton dismissed the speculation during a recent interview.
âThereâs an AI report that Demi and I are a couple now, and thereâs one that Iâm leaving the show,â Thornton told USA Today. âThey have nothing to do with reality.â
He later referred to the rumors as âAI-generated crap.â
Season 2 ended with Tommy launching a new company, CTT Oil, alongside Cooper, Rebecca, Ariana, and several longtime allies after leaving M-Tex Oil.
‘Landman’ Became a Major Paramount+ Hit
The series continues to grow into one of Paramount+âs biggest original programs.
According to Paramount+, the season 2 finale drew 15.8 million viewers during its first two days of streaming, making it the platformâs biggest original series finale to date.
Thornton recently admitted during Deadlineâs Contenders TV panel that even the cast was surprised by the scale of the showâs popularity.
âWe thought it was going to appeal to the middle of the country,â Thornton explained. âWe certainly didnât think it would become this huge international hit.â
Thornton also credited the showâs blend of drama, humor, and action for helping it connect with viewers.
He said the series combines âemotion and humor and drama and absurdity and danger.â
