Did Harry Bosch get the send-off he deserved? The final two episodes of Bosch: Legacy dropped on April 17, bringing an end to <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/amazon-prime-video”>Prime Video</a>’s take on author <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/bosch-star-titus-welliver-nailedharry-bosch-audition-michael-connelly.html/”>Michael Connelly’s iconic detective character</a>.

Titus Welliver’s Bosch has been a fixture on the streaming service since 2014, when Bosch premiered. That show was canceled in 2021, but got a continuation in the form of Bosch: Legacy, which focuses on Harry’s work as a PI as his daughter, Maddie (Madison Lintz), embraces her new career as an LAPD officer.

<a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/bosch-legacy-ending-season-3-star-titus-welliver-reacts-eternally-grateful.html/”>Amazon’s decision to cancel Legacy </a>after just three seasons left many people scratching their heads, including Welliver, who’s made it clear he’d be happy to continue playing the fan-favorite character. Even more frustrating was the news that the season 3 finale was not written as a series finale, leading to fears of a cliffhanger ending and unresolved storylines.

“Badlands,” the ninth episode of Bosch: Legacy Season 3, wrapped up most of this season’s main threads.

The first part of the episode mostly focuses on the investigation into Detective Jimmy Robertson’s (Paul Calderon) assassination. Harry brings in the crooked sheriff’s deputy Jack Garritty (Chris Bauer), who confesses that he’d given Robertson the false tip that sent him to the taco truck, where he was then murdered.

Garritty also confirmed that cartel enforcer Humberto Zorrillo (Manuel Uriza) killed Robertson, and that Diego Perra (Esteban Carmona) was a patsy who’d been set up to take the fall. Zorrillo is arrested, but in a blow to newly elected DA Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers), the DEA swoops in to take over the case, meaning she’s now on uneasy footing with the LAPD.

Harry then turns his attention to tracking down Finbar McShane, the man who killed the Gallagher family. With the help of Ken Gurbizs (Gonzalo Menendez), an old friend from his days in the Army’s special forces, the detective discovers he’s in Mexico. Harry plans to head south of the border, much to the concern of Maddie.

“Are you going down there to get him, or take him out?” she asks. “Tell me you are going to bring Finbar McShane back alive, please.” We don’t see Harry’s answer, but he later reveals that he did promise Maddie he didn’t intend to murder McShane.

Harry finds McShane in Mexico, and he and Ken prepare to fly him across the border to the U.S. But the federales close in, forcing Harry and his friend to make a choice. At first, Harry suggests lying low for a few days, but McShane taunts him with details of how he killed the Gallaghers. This nearly pushes Harry over the edge, but he pulls back, saying that McShane wants “suicide by soldier” and he won’t give him the satisfaction.

This season has repeatedly raised the question of whether Harry is willing to cross an ethical line in the pursuit of justice. There were hints that he’d ordered Dockweiler’s murder, though he later confessed to Maddie that he was not behind the killing. And there’s the question whether he might have been involved in a war crime when he was stationed in Afghanistan. Here, Harry refuses to give in to his desire to avenge the Gallaghers by killing McShane. That’s not the case for Ken, who immediately sees that his and Harry’s best hope for getting out of Mexico unscathed is without McShane in tow. Accordingly, he pulls out his gun and coldly shoots the murderer in the back of the head.

However, even though Harry didn’t pull the trigger, he’s still implicated in McShane’s death. Back in LA, he’s quietly drinking in the dark. Maddie stops by, and he tells her that McShane is dead but “not by my hand.”

“Case closed?” she asks, her voice quavering. Is she emotional because she knows her dad did not kill McShane? Or because she realizes just how close he came to doing so?
