Netflix viewers have rushed to binge a thriller series that is centred on a teenager being kidnapped by a sex-trafficking ring.
The Brazilian limited series Rivers of Fate consists of four action-packed episodes that have left viewers ‘on the edge of their seats’.
Details of the series before diving in are minimal, but the synopsis does tease: ‘When a teen is kidnapped by a sex trafficking ring, a river pirate and a fierce mother embark on separate quests to find her — until their paths cross.’
After being released on Netflix two days ago, the series has quickly raced up the charts in the UK, where it’s currently sitting as the ninth most-watched TV show.
Created by Bráulio Mantovani, Fernando Garrido and Stephanie Degreas, it stars Domithila Cattete, Marleyda Soto and Lucas Galvino.

‘Rivers of Fate is a moving and impactful series that gets under your skin,’ LeisureByte wrote.
‘It’s brutal in its realism. A story of crime, survival, and revenge. This one should get under your skin,’ Heaven of Horror shared.
‘Despite the bleakness of Rivers Of Fate, we’re intrigued enough about how the stories we were introduced to will come together with the mystical elements of the overall plot to keep watching,’ StreamItorSkipIt.
Meanwhile viewers also weighed in.
‘I binged the whole series in one day. It’s just 4 episodes so it’s easy to do it. I’ve never read the book so I didn’t have anything to say about the adaptation…but it’s a hell of a ride and definitely worth watching,’ Cassia posted on IMDB.

‘Rivers of Fate completely drew me in. Dark, raw, and emotional. It captures both the brutality and strength of human nature. The performances are outstanding and even though I just finished it, it already left a strong impact. Not an easy watch, but definitely worth it,’ user LunNaria posted.
‘This is a show that viewers will just tag along characters and enjoy the rollercoaster experience,’ purseofglitters added.
Many also said the ending left them in ‘shock’.
As well as teenager Janalice’s (Domithila Cattete) storyline, the series also follows Preá (Galvino), who is forced to lead a gang of river pirates, while Mariangel (Soto), a Colombian woman, seeks vengeance after the loss of her husband and child to the same gang that rules the city of Belém.
Speaking to Netflix ahead of the show’s premiere, director Quico Meirelles explained: ‘There’s something about the adrenaline rush in the miniseries, the frenzy with which things happen, that leaves the audience breathless.’
Its star Domithila also shared that: ‘People will feel a lot of emotions when they watch Rivers of Fate . It’s a story of great hope. It is important to share it so that stories like these don’t keep repeating themselves.’
Rivers of Fate is streaming on Netflix.
