Seven Emmys and two Tonys sit on Bryan Cranston’s shelf, but the role that fills his heart the most does not come with a script or a spotlight. It is being a father, a part he speaks about with a pride that feels quieter, deeper, and far more personal.

The “Breaking Bad” star recently shared rare and heartfelt thoughts about his daughter, Taylor Dearden, reflecting on her journey and the pride he feels as he watches her carve out her own path as an actress.

Cranston Praises Daughter Taylor Dearden as ‘Wonderful, Hard-Working Actor’

“Well, Taylor is a wonderful, hard-working actor,” Cranston said during an appearance on TODAY. “She grew up in this business with my wife and me being actors. And so, we’re so proud of her,” Cranston told Craig Melvin.

Taylor Dearden, 33, has been gaining attention for her role as Dr. Mel King on the HBO series “The Pitt,” earning praise for her performance.

“When I hear praise for Taylor’s work on The Pitt, it means more to me than anything anyone could ever say to me about my work,” he said. “You know, you’re a proud dad. And I’m OK. I could retire after you hear that.”

He added that both he and his wife, actress Robin Dearden, share that sense of pride.

“There is nothing more gratifying than when your kid receives praise. Nothing,” Cranston told the Associated Press in June 2025. “No one can say anything to me that’s better than that.”

“Her mom and I are just over the moon with her work on it,” he noted.

While Bryan Cranston is best known for his unforgettable turn as Walter White on “Breaking Bad,” his journey to acting was not always clear.

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, the “Malcolm in the Middle” star shared that he once saw his future in a very different field, law enforcement.

“In junior high, I checked out. The only thing I related to was sports, and I scrambled to survive academically. I became quiet and observant. After high school, I attended L.A. Valley College, a two-year community school,” Cranston shared.

“My brother was interested in police work and was studying to join the Los Angeles Police Department. At college, I studied police science, which gave me discipline and taught me right from wrong.”

How One Acting Class Changed Everything

Cranston said his path shifted when he signed up for an acting class as an elective, a simple choice that would go on to change the course of his life.

What began as curiosity quickly turned into something more, prompting him to rethink his plans.

The class, he said, left him with “second thoughts about police work,” guiding him toward a career that would span decades across television and film.

Over the years, Cranston built a lasting legacy with roles in “Seinfeld,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” and “Breaking Bad,” in which he brought to life a high school teacher who becomes a powerful drug kingpin.

Now, as he looks back, it is his daughter’s journey that stands out in a deeply personal way.

Through his words, Cranston reflects a different kind of fulfillment, one not defined by awards but by the quiet pride of watching his child grow, succeed, and find her own voice.
