Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz are apparently willing to end their ‘feud’ with Sir David and Lady Victoria Beckham – but are requesting an apology.
In recent years the family have been the centre of rumours that they’ve had a massive falling out with their eldest son, 26, and his wife, 30.
Speculation first kicked off three years ago when model and actress Nicola reportedly refused to wear one of her mother-in-law’s designs on her wedding day, with reports emerging earlier this year that the couple had since distanced themselves from his family.
Then, in May, they were notably absent from Sir David’s 50th birthday celebrations, while Brooklyn then covered up a tattoo dedicated to his mum and unfollowed his brothers Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 20, on Instagram. The whole Beckham family were then seemingly not invited to the couple’s recent vow renewal as well.
Although the family has largely kept quiet on what exactly has unfolded, a source has now claimed Brooklyn and Nicola are ready to bury the hatchet – but are expecting his parents to be the ones to make a ‘truly staggering’ concession.
It’s now been reported that the couple will ‘settle for nothing less than a substantive and public apology from his parents’ as they have issues with the way Nicola believes she was treated in a ‘one-sided media war’.
‘Things got really so bad. There is nothing which Brooklyn or Nicola did that would have deserved this treatment,’ a source has told the Daily Mail.
‘It is hard to understand the intensity and the escalation [of the media stories]. It seems that they thought they could heap abuse on Nicola without any consequence. They did not let up.
‘There was a public trashing which kept on going. Someone should have told them to stop because it was not in their best interest to do this to their own son, but nobody did.’
They went on to say that it ‘seemed as if things were being said without any regard being paid to the impact on Brooklyn’, who is ‘loyal to his wife’.
The source continued: ‘There is an obvious first step which would be a public acknowledgement [by David and Victoria] of what they did, and an apology. It cannot be a performative thing. There is no realistic chance of a reconciliation without that happening first.’
It’s also been claimed that Brooklyn and Nicola believe that one of his parent’s closest aides allegedly briefed the media with stories that were ‘intended to demonise and upset them’, adding the nuggets were ‘untrue or out of context’.
Although the couple seem to take issue with these reports, they’ve been missing from several milestone events celebrated by the Beckham brood this year.
In May they skipped all three of his birthday events – a family party in the Cotswolds, a dinner party in London, and a family fishing trip Sir David organised for his three sons.
At the time, Sir David tagged Brooklyn in a post about the boys’ trip, writing: ‘You were missed’.
There were claims at the time that Brooklyn and Nicola didn’t want to attend the events due to the presence of his younger brother Romeo’s now ex-girlfriend Kim Turnbull attending.
As teenagers, the DJ was close friends with Brooklyn but was forced to shut down reports they’d ever dated.
Soon after Brooklyn’s brothers unfollowed him on social media, while he also made what appeared to be a pointed dig at his family after sharing a post online in which he said he would ‘always choose’ his wife.
But it was in August that things seemed to escalate after the Beckham’s were snubbed from the invite list for their son’s vow renewal ceremony, which was held in the United States.
‘This was the final kick in the teeth for David and Victoria. Seeing Nelson having such a pivotal role at the ceremony was heartbreaking for David, especially. Not one member of the 30-plus extended family knew about the wedding, or was invited,’ a source told The Sun.
Then, last week, Brooklyn didn’t attend or even acknowledge his dad being knighted.
The 50-year-old former England captain was awarded the title for his services to sport and charity in the King’s birthday honours list.
He was accompanied by his wife, and his parents, Sandra and Ted. The family were later joined by their three youngest children – which also includes daughter Harper, 14.
‘To have my parents there today, to have my wife there to celebrate with my children, it makes it a very emotional day,’ Sir David said.
It was reported he failed to even offer his father a private congratulations on the achievement.
