Tallulah Willis is opening up about one of the most difficult chapters of her life â and the healing thatâs followed. In a recent Instagram post, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore shared personal before-and-after photos revealing the toll her eating disorder once took on her body, including hair loss so severe it left her partially bald.
The photos, taken during her time at Driftwood Recovery in Texas in 2022 and again earlier this year, show a dramatic contrast. At her lowest point, Willis said she needed a wheelchair due to muscle atrophy and used hair clips to hold together what little hair she had left. âI was sick enough to make you look,â she wrote, reflecting on how she once saw her appearance as a âbadge of honor.â
Now in recovery, the 31-year-old says sheâs proud of how far sheâs come. âI didnât value myself or my health,â she added, âbut I am of the lucky who have made it to the other side.â By sharing her story publicly, Willis hopes to support others in similar situations, writing that she wants âto heal and hug and soothe every busy mind thatâs out there still hurting.â
Her post was met with an outpouring of support from fans and followers, many thanking her for her honesty and bravery. One of her supporters commented, âYouâre so brave to talk about it I know youâll inspire others into recovery â¤ï¸â
âI want to heal and hug and soothe every busy mind thatâs out there still hurting,â she wrote in closing.
Grief, Family, and Finding Light Again
Tallulah previously shared more about her recovery and family in a 2023 personal essay for Vogue, reflecting on the years she spent silently struggling with body image, depression and anorexia while dealing with her father Bruce Willisâ declining health.
âI just lived with the silent certainty of my own ugliness,â she wrote, recalling how hurtful tabloid comments during her childhood shaped her self-perception. Diagnosed with borderline personality disorder after a breakup in 2022, she began intensive treatment and committed to healing not just for herself, but for her family. âAn emaciated body wouldnât do that,â she said. âI had felt the weight of people worrying about me for years, and that put me on my knees.â
While navigating recovery, she also began reconnecting with her father, who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023. She described collecting voicemails, taking photos, and holding his hand during visits, noting, âHe still knows who I am and lights up when I enter the room.â
Documenting Moments With Bruce
On June 22, Tallulah shared rare photos of Bruce Willis during a family visit to her grandmotherâs house, showing him smiling and enjoying the day. In the caption, she said she posted the images to share âa great day filled with smiles,â noting, âI know what he means to everyone.â Despite some criticism, she stood by the decision, adding that her family had âcarefully exercised our discretion,â per earlier reporting.
As Bruceâs condition progresses, Tallulah continues to show up for him while sharing her own journey toward self-acceptance. âMore and more often I feel like Iâm standing in that light,â she wrote in Vogue.
