Bryan Cranston Thrilled to Return in “Malcolm in the Middle” Reboot

Everyone’s beloved family show, “Malcolm in the Middle” is making a comeback with a reboot on Disney+!

As per a report in The Hollywood Reporter, this 2000s sitcom returns in a four-episode series that follows Malcolm and his daughter Leah as they get caught up in family chaos when Hal and Lois invite Malcolm to their 40th wedding anniversary party.

Bryan Cranston spoke to PEOPLE at the May 21 FYC event for his new AppleTV+ show, “The Studio“, and described how he felt filming the four-episode “Malcolm in the Middle” miniseries reboot.

69-year-old Cranston said, “Slipping back into that character of Hal for me was so rewarding — I missed him.” “It’s been almost 20 years since we said goodbye. And he’s a sweet, lovable man. He’s really a lovable guy, and it was fun to see all my whole family back together. It was great.”

Bryan Cranston said certain moments helped him reconnect with his character. Talking to People, Cranston added, “It’s a short-sleeve shirt that Hal would wear, a patterned short-sleeve shirt that screams out he’s not going anywhere.”

In March, Bryan spoke to Variety and shared how the dynamic between the characters will be different in the “Malcolm in the Middle” reboot.

“Malcolm in the Middle”—one of America’s beloved sitcoms—aired for seven seasons from 2000 to 2006. The reboot will bring back most of the original cast, including Bryan Cranston as Hal, Jane Kaczmarek as Lois, Frankie Muniz as Malcolm, Christopher Masterson as Francis, and Justin Berfield as Reese.

Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will now play Dewey, replacing Erik Per Sullivan. Anthony Timpano takes over the role of Jamie, originally played by twins James and Lukas Rodriguez. Keeley Karsten joins the cast as Malcolm’s daughter Leah, and Kiana Madeira will play his girlfriend Tristan.

The reboot finished filming in May but doesn’t have a release date yet.

As per ABC News, the official synopsis for the revival reads, “Malcolm and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”

Besides the reboot, Bryan Cranston will also be starring in AppleTV+’s “The Studio”. The show is a satirical comedy featuring Seth Rogen, Catherine O’Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn.
