If you’re looking for your next binge watch, you couldn’t do much better than Poker Face.

The new thriller, which recently returned for its second season, has racked up a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and delighted fans with Rian Johnson’s take on the classic ‘case-of-the-week’ murder mysteries.

Natasha Lyonne plays casino worker Charlie Cale in the show, with her character – who has the extraordinary ability to figure out when someone is lying to her – finding herself caught up in the deaths of strangers while on the run.

With 10 episodes in the first season and the first three of season two available on Now after airing on Sky Max last night, there’s plenty to dig into this weekend.

Episodes will be dropped weekly after this first batch, so now’s a good time to get caught up with the next Bank Holiday still a couple of weeks away.

A subscription to Now’s Entertainment package is available for £6.99 (which is 30% off) if you sign up for six months.

In a Google review, fan Heather Makemson wrote: ‘This show was far more interesting & the acting far better than I was expecting! But, truthfully, it should not be a surprise because Natasha Lyonne is always incredible.

‘This show manages to keep things light & funny without becoming to corny.’

Viewer Tyron Brown hailed the series as ‘one of the best TV shows I’ve seen in years’, adding: ‘ Every episode was solid and kept me hooked.’

Given creator Rian’s success with Daniel Craig and the Knives Out saga, it’s no surprise he’s nailed the format here.

Google user Metta Bhavana pointed out that while the filmmaker clearly knows all the cliches, he puts his own spin on everything.

They wrote: ‘[He] confronts them all head on, twists them and makes them something so fresh, original and unexpected, it’s as if they were just invented.’

Other fans have described it as ‘absolutely worth the watch’ and ‘refreshing’, as well as ‘funny, heartfelt and full of twists and turns’.

There have also been plenty of comparisons to classic detective story Columbo with a similar format.

‘This has been one of the best things we have seen in a really long time. With its Columbo inspiration, each episode is wildly different and themed,’ wrote Preston Taylor on Google.

‘Natasha Lyonne is as always absolutely phenomenal! It’s got crazy good stars, such as my fave Chloe Sevigny and a different cast each episode.’

Poker Face is available to stream via Now.
