The crimes being committed against holidaygoers are rampant, at least on our TV screens.

The latest iteration is the quizzically named If It’s Tuesday, It’s Murder, which will require you to spare a thought for those whose favourite day is the second one of the week.

In this new Disney Plus seven-parter, a sundry batch of Spanish tourists holidaying in Portugal find one of their number, Fernando, dead in the bathtub (no, it isn’t The White Lotus or Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, it just sounds a bit like them).

Worst of all, the death takes place on the first proper day of the week-long trip, so there goes any real hope of part of the hols being salvaged.

The inspector on the case initially chalks Fernando’s loss up to the fact that he was an overweight alcoholic (ouch) on medication for heart issues. But what about those electrical burns (again, ouch) on his body?

It turns out a hair dryer was tossed into the bath with poor Fernando, before the murderer chucked it out the window. My first suspect would be anyway sporting a voluminous trim.

The Spanish-language dramedy (which you can watch with subtitles) sees the other tourists on the trip turn into citizen detectives and hunt down the culprit. That is, rather than returning home under a grey cloud because one of their mates has been snuffed out or even just singing a dirgeful rendition of Abba’s Fernando.

The investigation under the crumbling roof of their once-great hotel gets going and sees them face off with the disinterested local police, a string of suspects and the threat of being expelled from the country.

Then the finger-pointing turns inward, as the eclectic group wonder if one of their own might be the murderer. (Come on, you had to see that twist coming.)

What other shows can you stream this weekend?

The gang – who, it might not surprise you to learn, are also devoted true-crime and mystery-novel fans – manage to take to some of the tourist traps of Lisbon, in this surprisingly cheerful whodunnit.

To stress, this is less Nordic noir and more Only Murders In The Building, vibes-wise.

Think cosy crime, with one episode for each day of the week-long sojourn.

The show has yet to garner enough reviews to generate a Rotten Tomatoes score, but on IMDb viewers have dubbed it a fun watch, with one describing it as ‘laugh out loud’, with hopes for a second season…

If It’s Tuesday, It’s Murder is available to stream on Disney Plus.
