Where there’s a will, there’s a gritty crime drama to sink your teeth into that leaves you on the edge of your seat.
Netflix has a knack for digging out the best British thrillers to grace screens over the past decade or two and breathe fresh life into them – introducing new audiences to timeless classics or genre lovers to their new favourite show.
Their latest find is ITV’s 2014 crime anthology thriller, Prey, starring British acting icon John Simm as DS Marcus Farrow in season one, a Manchester-based detective desperately trying to prove his innocence after he’s accused of murder.
Then, in season two, we meet Philip Glenister as prison officer David Murdoch, who is forced to go on the run after his pregnant daughter is kidnapped.
Rosie Cavaliero stars as Detective Sergeant Susan Reinhardt across both seasons, a woman dealing with her inner demons as she tries to uncover the truth.

One thing is for sure: each season of this Bafta-nominated drama is a nail-biting tale of justice and vengeance in the face of the highest stakes possible.
The show made quite a splash when it first came out over a decade ago, clinching a stunning 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.
‘It’s a gripping, breathless, buttock-clenching chase, foot to the floor, blues and twos going. I’m there, to the end,’ The Guardian critic wrote at the time.
‘Prey… is a near perfect blend of well-crafted characterisations within the context of a credibly gripping murder case,’ San Francisco Chronicle praised.
‘Bolstered by a stacked roster of very capable British actors, Simm, Glenister and Cavaliero go a long way toward helping you not worry about wasting your time,’ The Hollywood Reporter hailed about the outstanding acting.

Essentially, if you love a bold police procedural, then you can’t go far wrong with this unique take on the well-loved genre.
Discussing what she loves so much about her character, Rosie told I Talk Telly: ‘I really like her because she’s one of those people who I love to play, she just says what she thinks and doesn’t really care.
‘I’m the opposite of that, I say something and worry about it for three days, whereas Susan will just say it and go “Right, let’s move on”.
‘So I love playing that kind of gruff, blunt person who doesn’t really care if she upsets people along the way. Life’s too short and she’s just getting on with it. She’s rude basically! And I quite like that.’
If you race through Prey, however, then fear not because there’s plenty more where it came from.
In March, they added a heartpounding Scottish courtroom drama, The Victim. There’s also the ensnaring murder mystery, The Dublin Murders, and the superb political thriller, Fearless, with the late Helen McCrory – just to name a few.
Prey arrives on Netflix on Sunday, April 26.
