Cat Deeley ‘requested different This Morning co-host’

Cat Deeley was keen to work alongside Rylan Clark as the new co-hosts of This Morning.

Last year ITV’s flagship breakfast programme lost both of its long-term hosts.

In May Phillip Schofield, 61, quit the show after admitting to an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a younger colleague.

Then, five months later, Holly Willoughby announced she was also leaving after 14 years, describing it as a ‘difficult goodbye’.

In the months since a roster of presenters have stepped in, but this week it was reported Cat, 47, would be taking over the top job permanently alongside Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shephard, 49.

A source said the cat was ‘out of the bag’ and the pair would be formally announced as the new hosts next month.

However, Cat was said to be keen to present alongside Rylan, who she had worked with during a three-day stint on the show in November.

But it’s also been claimed she will ‘not receive special treatment’ when balancing her new job with her commitments as the host of So You Think You Can Dance in the United States.

‘She will absolutely not be given time off to film the next series of So You Think You Can Dance. So she has to make that decision, it’s one or the other, end of,’ the source said.

The presenter is also said to have concerns about her husband, comedian and TV presenter Patrick Kielty’s commitments in Ireland and how they would juggle the jobs.

‘She also feared that Patrick’s commitments in Ireland made things very tricky for her to take the job. She also really, really wanted to do it with Rylan,’ they added when speaking to The Mirror.

When reports of Cat joining the show first emerged last year it was claimed she and Ben would receive an annual salary of £555,000.

Despite the hefty salary, it was still far lower than what Holly and Phil were paid, with the pair reportedly being taking home £700,000 annually for their role.

However, with her current role on the US reality show, Cat is reportedly paid at least £344,000 a season.

Splitting her time between the US and UK while the show is filming, the next season is set to air in March.

When Cat and Ben were revealed to be the frontrunners for the This Morning roles, the source said Ben was ‘obviously well known and loved by the ITV daytime audience thanks to his many years on the breakfast sofa’.

Meanwhile they said Cat was also a ‘very recognisable face’ for viewers.

However, following her hosting stint last year, Cat did call her time on the show ‘a one-off’.

‘It was so much fun, but it was only really a one-off,’ she told Closer in December.
