CBS Reportedly Interested in Bringing Fan-Favorite Morning Host to Network

Hoda Gotb

CBS may be eyeing a familiar face as it looks to refresh its on-air lineup, with a new report suggesting the network is interested in bringing a beloved morning-show host into the fold. While no official moves have been announced, the rumored outreach has sparked plenty of buzz, raising questions about what a potential shake-up could mean for viewers and the future of CBS’s flagship programs.

Hoda Kotb to Join CBS News?

While Gayle King is one of the current co-hosts on “CBS Mornings,” the 70-year-old’s $15 million-a-year contract expires in 2026. Now, the Daily Mail reported that CBS News may be looking into hiring Hoda Kotb to replace her.

According to an insider, “people with big salaries and small ratings are going to be mercilessly cut – and Gayle fits the bill in both categories.”

The insider went on to say that the editor-in-chief at CBS News “wants a huge name who brings warmth, credibility, and viewers. And Hoda checks every box.”

Hoda left the “Today” show in January 2025. She left to launch a wellness brand, Joy 101. It launched in mid-2025 to little fanfare.

Reports now state she is itching to return to the spotlight on TV.

Shakeups at CBS

These rumors about Hoda come after veteran anchor John Dickerson announced in October that he would be leaving the network in December after 16 years. The insider said, “Let’s be clear: he didn’t quit. He was pushed. That shows that nobody is safe.”

The network now wants to bring in star power and thinks Hoda is the face of morning news. The insider added, “Hoda is morning TV. She is the comfort America trusts with its coffee.

The network wants to entice her by making her central to “CBS Mornings” and the star of the show, rather than having to share the spotlight as she did on the “Today” show.

While the network is very interested in bringing Hoda on board, they are nowhere near closing a deal with her, the insider said.

A Return to NBC

While there is talk of Hoda possibly going to CBS, she recently made a return to NBC. She was back as one of the hosts of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

After her hosting duties were done, she shared on her Instagram page some photos of the family Thanksgiving dinner. She captioned them, “Happy thanksgiving xoxoxo.”

The photos include a selfie she took with her family at the dinner table. It also happened to be a birthday celebration for her brother, Adel. The room was decorated with both birthday and Thanksgiving decorations.
