Celebrity Traitors star claims Celia Imrie’s ‘TV moment of the year’ was not a one-off

After nine incredible episodes, the Celebrity Traitors has finally come to an end.

It was Alan Carr who emerged victorious in the end, scooping the £87,500 prize for his chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK.

Along the way, however, we learned an awful lot about some of the UK’s biggest names.

We now know, for example, that Stephen Fry doesn’t have an encyclopaedic knowledge of Shakespearean deaths, that you shouldn’t underestimate Cat Burns, and that Jonathan Ross’s stylist is doing an incredible job.

Of course, arguably the biggest revelation from this year’s show was that national treasure Celia Imrie farts when she gets nervous.

The Thursday Murder Club star, 73, famously let wind during a team challenge where the celebs were locked in a cabin, causing the normally solemn host Claudia Winkelman to break character.

‘Welcome to the worst team-building away day in history,’ Claudia said right before Celia cut the cheese.

‘What just happened?’ she then asked (as if she didn’t know), to which the veteran actor replied: ‘I just farted, Claudia. ‘I’m so sorry. It’s nerves, but I always own up.’

It was an incredible moment, the type of TV event you’ll tell your grandkids about, and some have already pumped the fart by calling it the ‘TV moment of the year’.

Now, however, it’s been revealed by The Sun that this trouser trumpet incident wasn’t the only time Celia passed gas in front of her celebrity co-stars.

‘Celia had already done it in the car as well,’ Clare Balding reportedly told them.

‘I was with her. She said, “I’m sorry, darling. Have I farted?” I said, “Yes, you did. Yeah.” She said, “I just do it when I’m nervous!”‘

While Celia might be thankful the TV editors spared her more embarrassment, they probably should have shown it on screen, as the farting went down very well with fans.

‘This moment deserves a Bafta,’ Scott Bryan wrote on X while @Mamabex01added: ‘I had to rewind it – I had actual tears streaming’.

Ruthie Nugent, meanwhile, claimed it was ‘the most revolutionary and taboo-breaking moment in TV history.’

Clares’ gassy gossip wasn’t the only Traitors secret The Sun revealed.

The sports star also suggested she and Tom Daley weren’t given a fair crack of the whip (or blow of the whistle) in the castle.

‘A lot of my friends are PE teachers, and they find that they don’t get listened to, whereas the history teacher or the English teacher or the head of science has a status,’ she said.

‘I think those round table situations where certain voices — and there are lots of factors one can put into this, why they have a higher status — but they carry with them a lot of votes.’

Of course, it’s worth noting that one of the finalists, Joe Marler, is a rugby player.

Celebrity Traitors is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.
