Erika and Charlie were married in 2021. They share two children: a daughter who is three and a son who is one. In an interview with The New York Times on Sunday, September 21, Erika revealed how she wears her husband’s necklace, the same one he was wearing at the time of his death. It is a pendant of St. Michael, and was taken off Kirk’s body when the paramedics tried to stop the bleeding.

“The medics had ripped it from his body while attempting to stop the bleeding,” The New York Times writes. “A trace of blood remained in the crevice of the cross.”

In the interview, Erika also recalled how she had kissed her husband goodbye, although she had been encouraged by the sheriff not to look at his body after he was shot. â€œWith all due respect, I want to see what they did to my husband,” she remembered saying. She described Kirk as having a “Mona Lisa-like half smile. Like he died happy. Like Jesus rescued him.” She continued, “The bullet came, he blinked, and he was in heaven.”

Unsurprisingly, Charlie’s death has had a profound impact on his family. Erika told the publication that she can no longer sleep in their shared room. â€œI’m rotating where I sleep,” she said.

Erika said goodbye to her husband almost two weeks ago, when she mourned at his casket. She also posted photos from this time on her Instagram account, along with a heartfelt caption. â€œRest in the arms of our Lord, baby, as He blankets you with the words I know your heart always strived to hear, ‘well done. My good and faithful servant,” she ended her message.

Charlie’s public memorial was held on Sunday, September 21. The service was held at the NFL stadium in Arizona and attended by hundreds of thousands of mourners. The stadium had a capacity for 73,000 people, but over 200,000 made their way to the memorial, the New York Post reports

Charlie’s widow, Erika, once again delivered a powerful speech, this time one of forgiveness and reflection. She also spoke about how she had noticed the single gray hair that her husband had when she looked at his body, CNN reports.
