During these trying and turbulent times, Cheryl and Kelly Rowland singing Fight For This Love in a gay club is exactly the antidote we needed.

For us mere mortals not lucky enough to be in the room where it happened, the crowd captured plenty of videos of the high-camp moment when the whole room burst into singing those timeless lyrics: ‘We gotta fight, fight, fight, fight, fight for this love…’

The interactive and intimate performance took place at one of Manchester Gay Village’s most iconic locations, Via on Canal Street, on Tuesday night while the pair were in the city to film the new season of The Voice.

As the girls, gays and theys got to singing, the chart-topping singer, 43, put on the moves in a bright green and pink coat and a massive ‘love’ necklace, although some noticed she didn’t seem to actually sing anything.

Every now and then, she turned the mic to the drag queens in the room, ready to pop out the performance of a lifetime. Meanwhile, Kelly was also dressed to impress in a showstopping black leather boiler suit.

At another point in the night, Kelly took the mic to put on a rendition of When Love Takes Over, which also got a moving response from the crowd.

The response from social media is just as overjoyed at the whole impromptu performance right out of 2009 as we are.

‘Cheryl singing Fight for This Love in 2026 was not on our bingo card,’ CherylNews wrote on X.

‘I have never been more jealous of a human being than I am of that drag queen,’ user key-ra said of one of the queens involved in the sing-along.

‘We’re so back ladies and gays,’ Caitlin declared.

‘Pure JOY – What I wouldn’t have given to be there,’ Javier shared.

Over on TikTok, Ian W rightfully commented: ‘The legend that is Cheryl’ and sarannelizabeth added: ‘I would simply pass away’.

‘Mother is mothering,’ J agreed.

Cheryl has joined The Voice UK coaching panel for the season, which will air next year alongside Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon, as McFly’s Danny and Tom and Sir Tom Jones step away from the show – with the latter revealing it wasn’t his choice to leave.

Meanwhile, rumours are heating up that an X Factor reboot is in the works, which could mean we see Cheryl back for yet another reality show – although any details are far from being confirmed.

According to insiders, the show would get a ‘modern makeover’ with a social media-forward approach, but exactly what that will look like in practice remains to be seen.

All in all, with an X Factor revival in the works, Cheryl back on the judging panel of a singing show and a gay club performance of Fight for This Love – it certainly feels like we’ve stepped back in time to the 2010s.
