Chris Brown will remain behind bars in the U.K. following his arrest in Manchester on May 15.

The 36-year-old R&B singer was taken into custody early by police on Thursday morning and charged with grievous bodily harm. The charge stems from a February 2023 incident where he is accused of hitting music producer Abe Diaw over the head with a bottle at a London nightclub.

On Friday, Brown appeared in Manchester Magistrates’ Court. A judge ordered that he be held in custody until his next court date in London on June 13. Notably, that’s after the scheduled kick-off of his Breezy World Tour, which is set to begin June 8 in Amsterdam.

During his court appearance, Brown’s attorney lobbied for his release, saying that he would agree to remain at his hotel in Manchester before finding more permanent accommodations and would not frequent any bars or clubs, the <a href=”https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/chris-brown-held-custody-alleged-31658472″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Manchester Evening News reported. But the crown prosecutor argued that the charges were “serious” and that Brown was a flight risk. The judge agreed, noting that he’d failed to appear for multiple police interviews related to the bottle attack and had the means to easily flee the U.K.

“It has been suggested to me that you are a flight risk. I have substantial grounds to believe that if you grant bail you will breach that bail,” District Judge Joanne Hirst said, according to the <a href=”https://www.express.co.uk/celebrity-news/2056034/chris-brown-live-court-bottle-attack” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Express. “You have repeatedly failed to attend interviews. Specific dates were identified on three separate occasions. You have the means to leave the country. You have no community ties to this country. You have previously breached court orders. The substantial security offered… that amount of money would have little impact on you. For those reasons, you are being remanded in custody.”
