Chris Hemsworth’s wife, Elsa Pataky, has been met with backlash after offering ‘out of touch’ advice to fans who are struggling.

Spanish model and actress Elsa, 49, married Marvel star Chris, 42, in 2010, and the pair share three children.

The power couple, who have an estimated net worth of over $200million (£149.2m), share a luxurious mansion in New South Wales, Australia.

Elsa and Chris made the move back to his homeland in 2014 after selling their two properties in Southern California.

And, in a new interview, Elsa has recommended that fans follow in her footsteps, opening themselves up to ‘opportunity’ with travel.

‘You need to take risks in life to discover new things,’ she said sagely.

Speaking to Body and Soul, she said: ‘People are so often in a job they don’t like, and they’re struggling every day, and I’m like, “Why don’t you free yourself?”

‘And they’re like, “Because of the money.” But why don’t you travel somewhere else or give yourself that opportunity?’

‘They’re scared of what could happen, [but] you need to take risks in life to discover new things.’

It’s a sentiment which, while well-intentioned, was met with swift backlash from commenters online.

‘Why don’t we all [have] a multi-millionaire husband to cover all living costs so we can “free’ ourselves?”,’ commented Lorraine4412 on X.

‘Load of rubbish easy to say when you are in her position’, agreed Plane Jane.

The comments carried over to Elsa’s Instagram account, where she had shared pictures from her Body and Soul photoshoot, along with details of her collaboration with clothing brand Spell.

‘Twelve years ago, I discovered Spell. A year ago, we began designing a collection together. Today, I share it with you,’ Elsa wrote in the caption to the post.

‘It’s been amazing and I hope you love every piece as much as we loved bringing it to life.’

However, not everyone was so enthusiastic, with k.i.m.b.e.r saying that they’d ‘have to sell my car to afford it, unfortunately’.

Meanwhile, rajqc described the clothing line as ‘not affordable to everyday people’, branding the situation a ‘bummer’.

Items from Spell’s current Adventure Collection range from £100 for a Cosy Campfire Scarf to £305 for an Outback Blanket Shawl.

Elsa’s contribution is set to arrive on Tuesday, July 21.

Elsa’s husband doesn’t necessarily feel so comfortable thinking about money, admitting in 2018: ‘I feel gross about it.’

Chris told GQ Australia: ‘I remember saving up for a surfboard when I was younger. The surfboard was 600 bucks, and I saved up for a whole year with Dad’s help.

‘I didn’t even want to surf on it for fear of damaging it. It taught me so many lessons about appreciation and working hard for something.’

Born in Madrid, Elsa appeared in a number of Spanish movies and television shows before relocating to the States in 2004 to further her acting career.

As an actress, she’s best known for roles in Snakes on a Plane, Furiosa (in which she appeared opposite her husband) and as Elena in the Fast and the Furious action franchise.

She also stood in for Natalie Portman during a climactic kissing sequence in Thor: The Dark World, sharing a smooch with Chris’s God of Thunder.

In 2006, Elsa began dating actor Adrien Brody, who bought her a 19th-century castle to mark her 31st birthday.

‘When I saw the castle, I asked Adrien, “Is this ours?”,’ she told Hello! in a cover interview in 2008. ‘He said, “Yes, welcome home”.’

The pair broke up in 2009, with Adrien retaining custody of the castle – a story he outlined in his 2015 documentary Stone Barn Castle.

Elsa, meanwhile, met Chris in 2010. They were married that same year and welcomed daughter India Rose two years later.

In 2014, twin sons Sasha and Tristan were born. Speaking to GQ Australia, Chris said that he didn’t want his children to take money for granted, adding: ‘Elsa and I talk a lot about how we instil that same appreciation and respect for things.

‘I don’t want them to feel like they’re privileged in any way. The fact that we have money and their parents are famous, that somehow they’re special, that scares me because we grew up with no money.’
