Christina Ricci has said she was once threatened with legal action after pushing back against a sex scene in a project.
Starting her acting career at the age of eight, Christina’s big screen debut was alongside Cher in the 1990 film Mermaids.
The following year she starred as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family and later its sequel, followed by Casper, before she started her shift into what she once described as ‘legitimate adult roles’.
But despite her early start in the industry, Christina has said she admires the confidence of younger actresses working today and their ability to push back against things they don’t feel comfortable with on set.
The 43-year-old added that when she was younger, her attempts to set boundaries left her in the firing line.
‘It’s really great,’ she said of the change.
‘Us older ladies talk about it all the time. It’s amazing to see that they don’t necessarily have to go through the things we had to go through,’ she said when appearing on The View.

‘They’re able to say, “I don’t want to do this sex scene”, [or] “I’m not going to be naked”.’
She added: ‘They can set boundaries for themselves that we were never allowed to do. Someone threatened to sue me once because I didn’t want to do this sex scene in a certain way.’
‘It’s really changed and it’s great to see.’
Her comments praising younger actresses specifically referenced her Yellowjackets co-stars, who include Sophie Nelisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Ella Purnell and Sophie Thatcher.
The series follows survivors of a mysterious plane crash that strands an all-female high school soccer team in a remote forest.

Despite many of her career-defining roles coming at a young age, last year Christina said she had a lot of regrets about the 1990s and wished she could go back ‘and do it over again’.
When asked if there was anything she missed about the decade key to her career, she admitted she wanted to have made different choices.
‘This is very dark, but I would just like to go back to that age and do it over again and not make so many f**king mistakes. Honestly, I regret so much,’ she said.
‘I’d like to go back to 1996 and be like, “All right… we had a practice run. It went OK, but it wasn’t really as great as we wanted it to be. We’re going to do this again”,’ she told The Hollywood Reporter.
She added that that she didn’t understand people who said they had no regrets in their lives.
Yellowjackets is streaming on Paramount Plus.
The View airs on ABC in the US.
