Cinema audience warned they’ll be kicked out if they fail immersive screening

Cinema audiences are being challenged to quite literally keep their footing during a terrifying new immersive screening.

Horror fans attending special showings of upcoming survival thriller Fall 2: Deadpoint will be forced to watch the entire film while standing on an elevated platform – and anyone who steps or falls off will be kicked out.

Two invite-only screenings are being held on August 22 in Los Angelesahead of the sequel’s theatrical release next month, with guests challenged to remain on a specially constructed ledge for the duration of the movie.

The stunt is designed to recreate some of the fear experienced by the film’s characters, with organisers promising to test viewers’ ‘balance and endurance as the tension builds on screen.’

The activation will reportedly tap into the ‘fear of heights, as well as the exposure, vulnerability, and survival that define Fall 2: Deadpoint.’

There is one fairly brutal rule: get off the ledge and your screening is over.

It’s the latest extreme cinema stunt from the studio behind a similarly unforgiving screening of The Long Walk, which saw audiences watching the dystopian thriller while walking on treadmills.

Fall 2: Deadpoint arguably lends itself even more naturally to the concept, although those of us who prefer popcorn and a reclining seat will thankfully still have that option when it arrives in cinemas.

What is Fall 2: Deadpoint about?

The sequel follows 2022 surprise hit Fall, which revolved around two women becoming stranded at the top of a 2,000-foot television tower.

This time around, the action moves to Thailand and introduces a new set of characters, as well as another deeply inadvisable trip to an enormous height.

After losing her fearless sister Hunter, Jax sets out on a dangerous climbing expedition with Hunter’s old friend in an attempt to honour her memory.

The pair travel to Mount Kwan, where they attempt to cross a treacherous series of planks high above the ground.

Naturally, things go spectacularly wrong.

A rockslide leaves the climbers stranded thousands of feet in the air, forcing them to battle vertigo, exposure and increasingly impossible odds as they attempt to survive.

The official synopsis promises ‘vertigo-inducing sequences, dark truths, and cruel twists’ as Jax is forced to confront her fears while fighting for both survival and closure.

Who is in Fall 2: Deadpoint?

Harriet Slater, known for Tarot and Belgravia: The Next Chapter, leads the cast as Jax, while Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story star Arsema Thomas plays her climbing companion.

Grantchester actor Tom Brittney also stars in the sequel.

Fall 2: Deadpoint is directed by twin filmmakers Michael and Peter Spierig, whose previous credits include Predestination, Winchester, and Saw sequel Jigsaw.

The screenplay comes from Scott Mann and Jonathan Frank, who also wrote the original Fall, with Mann having directed the first movie.

The original proved an unexpected success when it arrived in 2022, grossing around $18million (£13.4m) worldwide before finding an even bigger audience after its streaming release.

Its renewed popularity was enough to turn the survival thriller into a full-blown franchise, with plans for two follow-ups first revealed in 2023.

Fall 2: Deadpoint is due to arrive in cinemas on September 2.
