‘Cobra Kai’ Actor Issues Public Apology, Owning Up to Mistake

Actor Martin Kove, best known for his role as John Kreese on “Cobra Kai,” has issued an extensive apology after reportedly biting his co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim during a fan convention appearance.

In the statement published by Variety, the actor took full responsibility for his actions and described Hannah-Kim as a respected and admired colleague.

Martin Kove Calls Co-Star “A Genuinely Kind and Wonderful Person”

In a display of accountability, Kove expressed remorse for his behavior, stating, “I deeply regret and apologize for my actions regarding the incident with Alicia, a genuinely kind and wonderful person who didn’t deserve to be put in this position.”

The 78-year-old actor, who rose to fame in the original “Karate Kid” films and later reprised his role on Netflix’s hit spinoff, said the incident was meant to be playful but acknowledged he crossed a line.

“I’ve always respected her and considered her a highly professional and talented co-worker on ‘Cobra Kai.’ I was being playful in the moment but went too far and there is absolutely no excuse for my behavior,” he continued.

While news of the incident circulated quickly at the event, it was reportedly addressed promptly and handled efficiently at the time.

Kove Says He’s “Committed to Learning” After Biting Allegation

Kove concluded his apology by addressing both Hannah-Kim and her husband directly. “I regret my actions for which I take full responsibility for what I did, and again I apologize to her and her husband. I’m committed to learning from this and it will never happen again.”

TMZ initially reported that Alicia Hannah-Kim had informed local police that Kove bit her hard enough on the arm that he nearly caused her to bleed. The incident reportedly occurred while the two were interacting with fans at the convention.

Although Hannah-Kim initially reported the incident to authorities, she chose not to pursue formal charges, per Deadline.

Kove played a central role in the “Cobra Kai” franchise since its 2018 debut and has long been associated with the franchise’s tough-guy persona. Hannah-Kim, who played South Korean martial arts expert Kim Da-Eun on “Cobra Kai,” has not issued a public statement in response to Kove’s apology. Representatives for the actor have also not offered further insight into the situation beyond the formal apology.

While others associated with the Netflix series have not commented publicly, Kove’s constructive and reflective apology may serve as a first step toward reconciliation between the co-stars.
