Comedian and actor Laura Clery, 49, has survived a terrifying near-death accident while home with her two children. The actor has recounted the story, detailing the moments after a 600-pound refrigerator pinned her to a counter.
Clery shared the experience on her Instagram and Patreon, following an earlier post in which she said one of her biggest fears as a parent was something happening to her while she was home alone with her two young children. She called the post explaining her fear a “premonition” before launching into the harrowing experience of being trapped by her kitchen refrigerator.
The accident occurred, as Clery explained, when her son, 7, attempted to climb the fridge. Clery stated, “I saw it shift slightly, just enough to make my stomach drop. So I ran over to push it back into place. I thought Iâd just nudge it in and move on with my day like a woman who has control over her life.”
According to Clery, the nudge caused the fridge to come crashing down on her before she could move out of the way, pinning her to the island at the lower back and hips. She stated, “I tried to push it off, and it didnât even slightly budge. It felt like pushing against a building.”

According to the account, Clery’s daughter Poppy, 5, began to cry, and her son ran from the house. She stated that in that moment, she had the thought that “this is the dumbest way anyone has ever died.”
In the Instagram video showing Clery being wheeled into an ambulance, she explained that she reached into her pocket and used her phone to call 911. She added, “thank god it didn’t fall on my kids. It took three firefighters to lift it off me.”

The IDIOT Podcast host was taken from her home after being rescued, where she was driven to a trauma center for evaluation. In the Instagram video of her rescue, she can be heard asking the paramedics, “You guys don’t think I broke anything, right?”
She confirmed in the comments of the post that she miraculously didn’t break any bones, and after hospitalization, was able to continue her recovery at home.
Clery also recounted that as she struggled for consciousness, one of the thoughts that kept her from panicking was the knowledge that her “kids are alone in the home with no one coming, I was meant to take them to school in the morning.”
