The “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” singer went on to invoke her tough NYC upbringing to show that she wouldn’t be intimidated.

“If you’re trying to shade me bitch, I’m going to come for you,” she said. “I’m from Brooklyn, and if I want to f*cking talk, I will do a tap dance if I f*cking want.”

After speaking out, Lauper continued her performance without incident.

The April 24 performance marked a major milestone in Lauper’s storied career. She’ll perform multiple times through May 2 in her first Vegas residency, which has appropriately been dubbed “Cyn City.”

Last October, <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/DPoxWXaEfGR/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Lauper announced that she’d decided to bring her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun show to Vegas for a “special run, an opportunity for fans who missed my Farewell Tour to celebrate one last time.”

On stage on Friday, the recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee explained why she wanted to come to Vegas.

“I just want to tell you why I came,” she said (via <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/DXikdPkCnZ8/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Instagram). “I heard there was an art community here. And I wanted to come and do art and music.”

She also touted backing band, which was entirely made up of women.

“Finally, after 50 freaking years … I have an all-female band,” she said, to audience cheers. “And they’re ass-kickers, OK?” she said.

Lauper’s Vegas performances could be the last chance fans have to see her in action. She previously hinted her “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” tour might be her last.

“I just want to thank everybody, say goodbye, celebrate with fans that have been so loyal and sweet and were there for every crazy-ass concert or thing that I did and I’m excited about doing it,” she told <a href=”https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/music/2024/06/03/cyndi-lauper-farewell-tour-let-the-canary-sing-documentary/73887709007/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>USA Today in 2024. “I don’t think physically in another five years I will be as good, but now I can do it, you know?”
