Ariana Grande faced a terrifying moment at the Singapore premiere of âWicked: For Goodâ on Thursday, November 13, when a fan broke through security and grabbed her on the yellow carpet. The incident, captured from several angles, left the singer visibly shaken as costar Cynthia Erivo rushed to protect her.
Wicked Stars Protect Grande
Grande, who plays Glinda in the upcoming film, had been walking the yellow brick road carpet at Universal Studios Singapore with Michelle Yeoh, Erivo, and Jeff Goldblum when the man sprinted toward her. He grabbed Grande and pulled her close before she tried to break free.
Erivo reacted instantly, stepping between Grande and the man and appearing to shout at him as security rushed in. Guards removed the man within moments. Grande, visibly shaken, took several deep breaths while Erivo and Yeoh stayed beside her to comfort her.
Security Removes the Man as Fans Identify Him Online
Videos circulating on social media quickly identified the man as Johnson Wen, who is known online as âPyjama Man.â Wen later shared his own clip of the encounter on Instagram, writing, âDear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You â¤ï¸.â
Wen has a long track record of crashing high-profile celebrity events. Earlier this year, he jumped onstage with Katy Perry during a June appearance, and in August he ran onto the stage at The Weekndâs show before security escorted him out.
Grandeâs Past Trauma Heightens Concern Among Fans
Fans voiced deep concern for Grande after the incident, especially because of her history with trauma. The singer has previously spoken about living with PTSD after the 2017 bombing at her Manchester Arena concert, which killed 22 people and injured many more, as reported by CBS.
âYeah, itâs a real thing,â Grande told British Vogue in 2018. âI know those families and my fans, and everyone there experienced a tremendous amount of it as well. Itâs hard to talk about because so many people have suffered such severe, tremendous loss.â
She added, âI donât think Iâll ever know how to talk about it and not cry.â
Grande has also been open about her anxiety. âI think a lot of people have anxiety, especially right now. My anxiety has anxiety,â she said. âIâve always had anxiety. I never really spoken about it because I thought everyone had it.â
Cynthia Erivo & Michelle Yeoh Praised for Quick Action
In the hours after the incident, fans praised Erivo and Yeoh for stepping in so quickly. Both costars stayed close to Grande until she regained her composure and resumed speaking with attendees.
Grande has not commented publicly on the moment, but the footage has already fueled conversations about celebrity safety and the rise of fan boundary violations at global premieres.
âWicked: For Good,â which stars Grande as Glinda and Erivo as Elphaba, is expected to bring one of Broadwayâs most beloved stories to theaters. The Singapore event, however, became an unexpected reminder of the intense spotlight Grande continues to navigate.
