Danny Cipriani’s ex-wife has blasted him after the rugby star and his Hollywood fiancée launched a crowdfunder for their wedding that has raised eyebrows.
That’s right, the ex-Premiership player, 39 and his partner AnnaLynne McCord of 90210 fame, 38, have been asking their guests to donate ‘any amount’ to cover the cost of the nuptials – despite having a combined net worth of $8million (£5.9m).
‘Gift any amount, contribute to our journey! Help us create our dream wedding and honeymoon experience with any amount of donation,’ the registry on their Honeyfund website reads, with options to help cover the rehearsal dinner, photography and catering.
A suggested donation is between £75 and £450.
Now another critic has joined the growing backlash, this time in the shape of Cipriani’s ex-wife Victoria Rose O’Callaghan, whom he parted ways with in November 2023 after three years of marriage.
Not mincing her words at all, she said: ‘It’s just plain tacky of them to hand round the begging bowl. If it was my neighbours, maybe. But for them? The very idea!
‘They’re even asking for money for the marriage licence. Donations for the honeymoon are just about acceptable, but they’ve both got the capacity to earn.’
In fact, the neuroscience practitioner quipped to the Daily Mail: ‘Why don’t they go on OnlyFans? They’re selling every other aspect of their lives. Sell your bodies!’
The 45-year-old’s offer of advice didn’t end there as she doled out some money-saving tips to the down-on-luck couple.
‘Scale down the reception. What’s wrong with a barbecue in the back garden? A beautiful, intimate, private moment. No need to be extravagant. They’re silly to want a big do when they’re claiming to have no money,’ she jabbed.
Sharing that it would never have crossed her mind to ask her guests the same, she said the to-be-newlyweds are ‘clearly not affected by humiliation’ and that her ex-husband has ‘found himself in a bloody hole if he’s begging for money for their wedding.’
At the time of their separation. Cipriani released a statement saying the pair ‘ have had some wonderful times together’ but have ‘also recognised we’re on different journeys’ and he wished his ex nothing but the best.
Since then, however, O’Callaghan has made her disdain clear, slamming him for announcing their split without warning her and saying she felt ‘knifed in the heart’.
Just a few months ago, she started to sell a string of Cipriani’s items on Vinted.
Over 40 items from his sporting past were listed, with some priced up to £280, and she clarified that they had been handed over to her during the divorce proceedings.
‘For months, actually, years, I’ve been paying for storage, holding onto boxes of Danny’s career, memorabilia, kits, medals, and personal items.
‘Not because I wanted to. But because I genuinely believed, at some point, he’d want to collect them. That he’d care enough to take responsibility for his own history. He didn’t.
