Danny DeVito is surely used to sparking a buzz with his memorable onscreen performances, but now he’s gone viral for another reason that you surely would never have predicted.
“Fans are absolutely obsessed with Danny DeVitoâs work after the beloved actor was spotted zooming through the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, N.J., on Friday, Nov. 21, on a haphazardly steered motorized scooter,” according to Parade.
Apparently, “[t]he Matilda legend was present for this yearâs New Jersey Hall of Fame induction, which included the Jonas Brothers, The Isley Brothers, and Bon Joviâs keyboardist, David Bryan, among over a dozen others.”
While that’s a notable honor, people were really talking about the actor’s scooter driving.
Fans Were Thrilled by the Video
While almost getting run over by Danny riding a scooter wouldn’t be great, the fact that he almost bumped into someone in a comical way had fans reacting to the hilarious video.
On one clip, a TikTok user wrote, “Crazy cuz my mom almost ran over Danny Devito once ð”
“You almost got run over by Danny [DeVito] on a scooter. Iâd brag about this for the rest of my life,” another person added.
A third person wrote, “Not the New Jersey driva ð”
“Iâd add this to my resume,” someone else left in a comment.
Yet another social media user left a comment saying, “Proof that he’s nothing like his character in Always Sunny because Frank would go out of his way to run everybody over[.]”
The New Jersey Hall of Fame ‘Honors the Garden State’s Most Distinguished Citizens’
While Danny is easily able to make people laugh with his antics, he was being honored for being one of New Jersey’s “distinguished citizens.”
According to the New Jersey Hall of Fame website: “Everyone needs a hero, so we look to the examples and accomplishments of Garden State citizens spanning the pages of nearly every volume of American history. Until now, they have never existed side-by-side, in one place. Because of the leadership and generosity of people like you, the story of New Jerseyâs greatness finally has a homeâNew Jersey Hall of Fame!”
“The New Jersey Hall of Fame honors the Garden Stateâs most distinguished citizens for their lasting contributions to society,” they also noted. “Through recognition and education, we celebrate New Jerseyâs rich heritage while inspiring the next generation of leaders, innovators, and trailblazers to reach their full potential and shape a brighter future.”
