Dick Van Dyke has given away the one thing that keeps him looking so young â and it’s as wholesome as you would expect from the legendary star of stage and screen.
Actor, entertainer, and comedian Van Dyke, 99, is in the kind of shape â both physically and mentally â that a man 20 years his senior would be proud and grateful to be in. He puts it down to the person closest to him.
On the evening of Sunday, October 5, Van Dyke and his makeup artist wife, producer and actress Arlene Silver, hosted the Vandy High Tea charity event. It was held at Vandy Manor, the couple’s home in Malibu, California, to raise funds for The Van Dyke Endowment of the Arts and the Dick Van Dyke Museum, which is currently in its development stage.
The couple welcomed questions from the people in attendance, one of whom asked Van Dyke what his secret to staying young is.
Dick Van Dyke Credits His Wife for His Youthfulness
When someone in the crowd asked the question, Silver recited it to her husband, saying, “What’s the secret to looking so amazing and young?”
Van Dyke eagerly responded. He pointed to his right, laughed, and said into his microphone, “Right here beside me.” He was, of course, referring to his wife, whom he credits with keeping him so youthful.
At the event, the beloved star also led a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for a 6-year-old fan, as per People.
On December 13 this year, Van Dyke will turn 100 years old. He’s been married to Silver, 54, since 2012.
Although he’s taken something of a step back in terms of acting and performing, Van Dyke is showing very few signs of slowing down â which we guess comes with the territory of keeping up with a woman 45 years his junior!
His last movie credit was as an angel in 2018’s festive flick ‘Buttons: A Christmas Tale,’ his last appearance on television was as a guest on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘ in 2024, and his last stage appearance was as a guest star on Broadway’s ‘Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life’ back in 2006.
Long May Dick Van Dyke’s Good Health Continue
Dick Van Dyke’s near-unrivalled showbusiness career has spanned nine decades, beginning in 1947.
Per IMDb, his many notable movie credits include 1964’s ‘Mary Poppins,’ 1968’s ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,’ 1990’s ‘Dick Tracy,’ 2006’s ‘Curious George,’ 2006’s ‘Night at the Museum,’ and 2018’s ‘Mary Poppins Returns.’
On the small screen, he’s appeared on shows like ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents,’ ‘Columbo,’ ‘The Golden Girls,’ ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch,’ ‘Scrubs,’ and, of course, 158 episodes of ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show,’ 72 episodes of ‘The New Dick Van Dyke Show,’ and 10 episodes of ‘The Van Dyke Show.’ He also played main character Dr. Mark Sloan in the brilliant ‘Diagnosis: Murder.’
As a stage star, he appeared in productions like ‘Bye Bye Birdie,’ ‘Same Time, Next Year,’ and ‘The Music Man.’
May Dick Van Dyke’s health and youthfulness remain for many years to come!
