
Dick Van Dyke is one of the most celebrated actors of all time. This is thanks to roles in works such as “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and “Mary Poppins.” Now, he’s on the verge of celebrating his milestone 100th birthday, and his wife, Arlene Silver, is revealing his plans.
Silver spoke to PEOPLE on December 7 while at the premiere of “Dick Van Dyke 100th Celebration” in Malibu, California. She stated that he has no major plans to mark the occasion. Instead, he wants to “be in his room watching Jeopardy reruns.”
She added, “He doesn’t want to do anything. He wants to be in his room watching Jeopardy! reruns with me.” Silver then said, “I’m so happy he’s here to see what I know is going to be a global celebration of him. I’m so glad he’s still with us.”
Silver went on to discuss her history with Dyke, saying, “I’ve always been celebrating him now, like since 2011 when I got him on social media. It’s like a pinnacle of all that is ⦠all these different people from different events we’ve done, [just] so cool.”
Dick Van Dyke Recently Opened Up About Making it to 100
Dyke will turn 100 years old on December 13, 2025. Recently, the beloved actor opened up about the health decisions that have led to his longevity. He did so at a recent High Tea event on November 30, where he discussed Walt Disney and the fact that he smoked.Â
Per PEOPLE, he said, “He was a wonderful guy. He just smoked too much! Doggone. I smoked a lot, actually!” Dyke continued, “I think I was probably in my 50s before it dawned on me that I had an addictive personality. If I liked something, I was going to overdo it.”
Regarding his health, the “Mary Poppins” star added, “So I got rid of booze and cigarettes and all that stuff, which is probably why I’m still here.”
His New Documenatry Will Be In Theaters
As mentioned, the premiere for “Dick Van Dyke 100th Celebration” took place on December 7 in Malibu, California. According to Fanfango, it will play in select movie theaters on December 13 and 14. The film will honor the beloved actor’s birthday by featuring classic clips, interviews, and more. It runs for 1 hour and 40 minutes.Â
