One Direction fans are officially in a spin after it was reported Zayn Malik has legally rejoined the band a decade after leaving – but all might not be as it seems.
The Pillowtalk hitmaker, 32, went solo in 2015 explaining he needed some ‘private time’ away from the spotlight, denying rumours of a rift with his bandmates Harry Styles, Naill Horan, Louis Tomlinson and the late Liam Payne.
Now a change to Zayn’s details on the band’s company, PPM Music Limited, on Companies House on November 3 has somehow caused huge speculation that he’s rejoining One Direction.
While it was reported on November 12 that a change on Companies House saw him legally rejoining the band, with some reports saying he’s now an ‘active director’ alongside the other bandmates – as of right now, this is not the case.
At the time of writing, on November 13, 2025, all the bandmates are listed on Companies House as ‘resigned’ from their Director roles, a change which happened on December 31, 2022, according to filing history.
Meanwhile, Zayn’s director role was terminated in 2016 after he left the band.
The only visible change on Companies House in the last few years was, sadly, Payne’s death, which saw his cessation as a person of significant control of the company.
The change on November 3 which has fans in a spin simply shows that Zayn changed his address to the USA, which doesn’t exactly seem like a move towards a reunion.
Zayn has ‘significant influence or control’ of PPM Music Limited just like Louis, Harry and Niall, and he’s had this status continuously since 2016.
What is a ‘person with significant control’ (PSC) of a company?
According to Gov.uk, a person with significant control (PSC) is someone who owns or controls your company. They’re sometimes called ‘beneficial owners’.
A PSC must meet one or more conditions known as the ‘nature of control’.
Most PSCs are those who hold:
- more than 25% of shares in the company
- more than 25% of voting rights in the company
- the right to appoint or remove the majority of the board of directors
Meanwhile, listed on Companies House as the only active directors are lawyer and senior partner at Lee & Thompson, Lawrence Engel, and director at Live Wire Business Management, Alan McEvoy.
Whether reports that Zayn has become a director of PPM Music are true remains to be seen, as changes to Companies House filings have a lag on the site, meaning any changes in the last 24 hours likely won’t show yet on the filing history.
Fans, stirred up by these reports, have been hoping that the remaining One Direction members might reunite one final time to honour Payne, who tragically died on October 16 2024 after falling from a Buenos Aires hotel balcony.
Speaking to The Sun, who report Zayn did make some legal move towards One Direction, a music source said: ‘This is a huge moment.
‘While heartbreaking, Liam’s passing has brought them together, it’s even more sad he was the biggest cheerleader of a reunion.
‘PPM was the original company they set up when they appeared on the show. The name stands for Princess Park Manor, the private gated complex they were moved into when they won the show.
‘Since Liam’s passing the boys have been in contact.’
One change that has happened recently on One Direction’s other company, 1D Media Limited – for which no members are directors, either, but still have significant control – is that Niall has amended his name from Niall Horan to Niall Maria Horan.
It’s unclear as to why this might be.
Rumorus of a reunion in some capacity aren’t completely out of the blue though, as Louis and Zayn have been spotted hanging out together in recent months, and there was speculation they are starring in a Netflix road trip shown together.
