If you thought âDoctor Odysseyâ was going to quietly sail into the sunset, think again. The Season 1 finale, âThe Wave, Part 2,â airs tomorrow (May 15, 2025) on ABC then hits Hulu and Disney+ the next day. But it won’t be a quiet finale; itâs going out with a bang⦠and a rescue mission.Â
How The Finale Plays Out
According to TV Insider, following the massive earthquake and tsunami along the Mexican coast, Max (Joshua Jackson) and Barry (Jim OâHeir) take shelter in an abandoned church. Because when nature strikes, of course your makeshift hospital becomes a gothic set piece.
Back on the ship, Avery (Phillipa Soo) kicks into action hero mode to find Max, while Tristan (Sean Teale) steps up to steer The Odyssey. Yep, itâs a full-blown chaos sandwich with a side of emotional traumaâand weâre eating it up.
But the finale isnât just about high-stakes drama. Itâs also tying up plot threads faster than Max can say âI need 20 ccâs of closure.â The two pregnancies that came to light (under wildly specific circumstances) were resolved, thankfully, per Decider. And the major character arcs will find resolution. Honestly? If this is the end, itâs a respectful one. The writers knew the renewal odds were murky and clearly planned ahead.
Itâs Not Dead, Just… Treading Water
Hereâs where it gets tricky and a bit frustrating. ABC just dropped their Fall 2025 schedule⦠and âDoctor Odysseyâ is noticeably MIA. Its usual Thursday slot? Replaced by â9-1-1: Nashville” (which, to be fair, sounds like a fever dream weâd probably watch).
BUT (and itâs a big but) âDoctor Odysseyâ has not been officially canceled. Craig Erwich, President of Disney Television Group, told Decider the showâs future âhasnât been determined yetâ and said it depends a lot on whether Ryan Murphy wants to dive back in for more. Translation: Theyâre leaving the door cracked open.
What Happens Now?
If this is the end, luckily the finale gives fans closure⦠no cruel cliffhangers, no dangling character fates (TV Insider). But letâs be truthful; we know thereâs more to explore, and if the cast and crew are game, the fanbase definitely is too. For now, weâre calling it a soft goodbye, not a hard stop. Fingers crossed that âDoctor Odysseyâ charts a second voyage.
