Many people love Donnie Wahlberg, and he is appreciative of his fans, but there was one New Kids on the Block superfan (affectionately referred to as “Blockheads”) whom he got to know well over the years. When he learned of her death, he penned a heartfelt tribute to her, reflecting on the impact she had on his life and how she inspired him.

Donnie Wahlberg Pays Tribute to His Longtime Fan

Wahlberg posted a photo on Instagram on Saturday, August 2, of himself hugging his fan, whom he refers to as Kelly. In the picture, they are both smiling widely as they look into the camera. In the caption, the “Blue Bloods” actor shared his thoughts.

“I often say ‘life is precious’ and ‘tomorrow is not promised,’” he began his message. “We are reminded of this every day. We feel it every time we have to say goodbye to a loved one, or to a BH Family member. Today is, painfully, one of those difficult days. Kelly was a Blockhead, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend and more. I got to know Kelly pretty well over the last few years, though she’s been around for a long time. I got to know her family over the last few days, though I hope to know them for a long time.”

Wahlberg also reflected on how he believed that Kelly lived her life “to the fullest” in every definition. This included traveling and following her heart, whether it was to visit “beautiful landmarks” or to attend gigs of bands she loved, including New Kids on the Block. Wahlberg was one of the founding members of the boy band and is still active today.

He continued, “She walked the talk. She did it simply because it is who she was! It’s something that so many Blockheads, like Kelly, have in common. It’s something that is not lost on me, and it inspires me every single day.”

Wahlberg then listed some of the ways that Kelly inspired him, writing, “To keep being there. To keep following my heart. To keep living into our shared experience and to keep celebrating this magical relationship that we all share. To keep showing up — the way Kelly kept showing up.”

Wahlberg chose not to share details of how Kelly died but instead celebrated her life with his beautiful message. He referred to her loss as “painful” and “very difficult to process.”

He continued, “I can’t understand, nor can I explain, why god moves the way god moves. I don’t know what his plan was the day Kelly left us. I can only trust that she is now on the greatest road trip of them all, with him. Following her heart, like she always did, on her way to being the same incredible angel in heaven that she was down here on earth.”

“She will be missed. She will be remembered. She will be celebrated,” he wrote. “It hurts, a lot, and it’s going to hurt for a long time. But I know that I will see that smile, and that gorgeous red hair, again. When I do, as always, I will yell ‘MINNESOTA!’”

Wahlberg ended his long and thoughtful message by referring to Kelly as “My Blockhead sister & Donnie girl forever.”

Other fans have reacted to the post, many of whom knew Kelly. “Beautifully written Donnie. I’ve only met her a handful of times, but she was always the sweetest,” a comment reads. “Even though I never met her, but we lost a family member. Our bond is something special that most don’t understand,” another person shared.
