Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has revealed he went through a cancer scare and didn’t tell anyone, even his wife of seven years.
The 54-year-old actor has been in one of the busiest eras of his life, promoting the new Jumanji and the live-action Moana.
He was also spotted attending Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, awkwardly getting pulled over by cops after leaving.
However, Dwayne’s world almost came crashing down after he felt a ‘painful’ lump on his testicle.
The WWE legend spent the entire weekend internally spiralling about his health, but kept the turmoil to himself to protect his wife, Lauren.
‘I didn’t even tell Lauren,’ he told Esquire. ‘I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about.’
He and Lauren have been together for over 20 years, tying the knot in August 2019, and the couple share two daughters.
Despite a packed schedule for Jumanji, first thing on Monday, he was in a doctor’s office getting checked for testicular cancer.
The GP told Dwayne he needed to get an ultrasound the next day, but believed it could be epididymitis, which is the inflammation of a tube at the back of the testicle that stores sperm.
‘So I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing—and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches,’ he continued.
Dwayne spent the day standing beside Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Kevin Hart, smiling and pretending everything was fine.
Jumanji: Open World, which is the third instalment of the rebooted series, is slated for release on Christmas Day.
He reassured Esquire that he is now okay, adding: ‘But I didn’t know that then, and the thing was really painful.’
Last June, the Fast and Furious star shared how he had struggled with digestive tract issues ‘for years’.
While on The Mark Hyman Show, he said: ‘That was at the beginning of 2024, and I was just getting ready to launch into what would become a nine-month workload for me — nonstop work.
‘And I was thinking, “How am I going to get through this with my gut issues? I’m not digesting properly.”‘
Health problems aren’t the stars’ only issues, though, as Dwayne ended up paying a fine for driving with his windows too tinted.
He was pulled over on his way home by Los Angeles Police Department, still sporting his crisp white shirt and cream trousers.
Pictures and video footage show Johnson chatting calmly to the cop, stepping out of his car to sign paperwork before heading on his way, keeping things professional.
He’d been at the Walk of Fame ceremony to deliver a speech for his friend and co-star Emily, 43.
‘Every single day, knowing Emily, as many of us do, that is one grateful woman who will wake up feet on the ground, being grateful about every moment,’ he said, joking that ‘it’s about time’ she was given a Walk of Fame star.
‘I feel like when you’re grateful about every moment, that then leads to the thing I think we all look for, which is joy and peace of mind, and those are all the things I think that make up Emily and so much more.’
The Rock already has his own star on the Walk of Fame, and it sits proudly beside those of Vince McMahon and Kermit the Frog, of course.
