This year’s new EA Sports FC game is looking to the past for inspiration, on a new high-tech feature.
EA Sports FC 27 is set to sport revamped gameplay and a new hub area called The Grounds, but it seems EA hasn’t yet revealed everything about its next football sim.
According to renowned leaker FutSheriff on X, the next entry will include a feature called PhotoFit, which will allow you to scan your face into the game to ‘create an avatar’ and ‘customise it’.
It’s unclear what modes it will be implemented with, but it will likely be connected to the Player Career Mode, where you can create your own player.
EA has not officially announced this feature for EA Sports FC 27, but it wouldn’t be the first time the series has used the technology. Starting from 2011’s FIFA 12, players could use a Game Face feature to upload photos to create your own player.
For some reason, the feature was removed after FIFA 16, but given sophisticated this technology has become over the past decade, thanks to smartphones, it should be more appealing and, theoretically, better implemented in EA Sports FC 27.

Other games in the past have experimented with face scanning tech, including Rainbow Six Vegas, WWE 2K, the PlayStation EyeToy, and more recently, Amazon’s role player Throne And Liberty.
Before that, 2000’s Perfect Dark initially had a feature where you could scan your face into the game using the Game Boy Camera, but it was cut at Nintendo’s request due to concerns over how it would be use in multiplayer matches.
Overall though, the concept is surprisingly rare in video games new and old, so it’ll be interesting to see if its use in EA Sports FC 27 will inspire other games, including perhaps EA’s own Battlefield series.
EA Sports FC 27 is set to launch across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 25, 2026.
The standard edition has Kylian Mbappé on the cover, while the Ultimate Edition cover features both Mbappé and Jude Bellingham.
