Eddie Murphy is sharing a moment of happiness as he celebrates a new addition to his growing family. During the AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards on Saturday, Murphy revealed that his son, Eric Murphy, and Jasmin Lawrence have welcomed their first baby together, a daughter named Ari Skye.
“They just had a baby girl,” he shared with E! News. “They just had her two weeks ago, or a week ago. Yeah, Ari Skye.”
A New Chapter for Two Hollywood Families
The coupleâs growing family connects two well-known names in comedy. Jasmin Lawrence is the daughter of Martin Lawrence, and Eric Murphy is the son of Eddie Murphy.
They confirmed their relationship in 2021 and married in 2025, opting for a more private ceremony.
Murphy later shared on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” “They got married like two weeks ago. Everybody was making the big wedding plans, and then they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them.”
From Friendship to Family
While their fathers became iconic collaborators in films like “Boomerang” and “Life,” Jasmin Lawrence said her relationship with Eric Murphy began in a way that felt entirely their own.
“It wasn’t even our dads, and they’ve done two movies together,” she said in a past interview with InTouch Weekly.
“They’re friends. I don’t even know. It’s crazy. But we met through my uncle, and we became really good friends. We bonded on a lot of things. Obviously, we have similar backgrounds, so we understood each other on a certain level.”
That early connection slowly evolved into a lasting relationship, culminating in their engagement in 2024.
Sharing the news at the time, they wrote, “God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter.”
A Baby Shower Filled With Love and Celebration
In the weeks leading up to their daughterâs arrival, Jasmin Lawrence gave fans a warm look at a moment filled with love and anticipation.
Sharing photos from their baby shower in March, she called it the “most beautiful and special celebration for our baby girl” and thanked “our parents and everyone that made this day so magical!” She added, “Ari Skye Murphy, you are SO loved already.”
A Proud Grandfather Reflects on Family and Legacy
For Murphy, the arrival of his granddaughter coincides with personal and professional milestones.
Speaking at the AFI ceremony, he shared, “I just had my first grandson, and my third granddaughter, and I just turned 65. I feel like it’s raining blessings on me this month, and to get this award and still look like myself. Because sometimes they wait until you’re really old.”
He also offered a grounded perspective on parenting.
“Oh, you don’t give advice like that. You know, your kids don’t go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you.”
