Actress Elizabeth Olsen has revealed her lack of love for Hugh Grant’s iconic Bridget Jones’ character.

The 36-year-old joined her co-star Miles Teller, 38, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, 39, and John Early, 37, for the London premiere of their new rom-com Eternity on Monday night.

Eternity focuses on Elizabeth’s character, Joan, who reaches the afterlife only to find that she has to choose to spend eternity with her first husband Luke, who died at war (Callum Turner), or her second husband Larry, with whom she built a life for 65 years and had children (Teller).

While discussing this love triangle trope with Metro, she reflected on one of cinema’s favourite messy entanglements: Bridget Jones’s Diary.

The 2001 film pegged Colin Firth’s upright human rights lawyer Mark Darcy against the cheeky playboy Daniel Cleaver, as the pair competed for Renee Zellweger’s character’s affection.

While the love triangle between the trio played out for two movies, Elizabeth revealed it was no competition, and didn’t consider it a real ‘love triangle.’

‘Yes. I mean, she shouldn’t be with Hugh Grant,’ she said.

‘He’s a cheater,’ she added with a laugh. ‘He doesn’t really care about her, he cares about himself.’

Despite her distrust of Mr Cleaver, she revealed she’s a huge fan of the film, citing it as one of her ‘favourites’.

When it came to other love triangles on screen, she admitted she hadn’t seen The Summer I Turned Pretty, and wasn’t a fan of the Twilight Saga when it was released – making Bridget the clear frontrunner.

The happily married star, who tied the knot with her husband Robbie Arnett in 2019, also shared some advice for singletons.

Elizabeth explained that she thinks people are treating it too much like a box-ticking exercise.

‘It kind of goes along with the themes of our afterlife and the eternity, I think we often are thinking that we’re looking for the most perfect fill in the blank because the world tells us that you can find the most perfect toothbrush, you can find the most perfect hair curler, you can find the most perfect whatever.

‘And I think that might not be the goal. I think the goal is [finding] people who just make you feel happy, not check all your boxes.’

She also revealed that when it comes to matters of the heart, within one lifetime, a person could fall in love with many people.

‘I believe that people, depending on their life circumstances, could have many loves. So I guess I believe in soulmates because I believe you can’t predict what happens.

‘Loss happens, and I hope for people who feel like they had a soulmate that they could find another great love in their life.

‘So I still believe that there are many loves in one lifetime, or however many that suit one’s life experiences.’

Eternity is out in cinemas on November 26.
