The England WAGs are not taking any criticism of their clothing choices as they support their boyfriends and husbands in the 2026 World Cup.

Irish football pundit Roy Keane voiced his opinions on the wives’ and girlfriends’ attire last week, having noticed that many of them had been wearing replica England shirts with their partners’ names on the back.

The commentator and former Manchester United captain, 54, branded their outfits ‘ridiculous’, feeling pretty strongly about the matter and getting irate just talking about it.

Now, the women themselves have seemingly responded, describing Keane as ‘miserable’.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the WAGs plan to continue wearing shirts emblazoned with their mens’ names unashamedly, as some did last night when the Three Lions played Panama in their final group match.

‘They are adamant they will wear whatever they want,’ a friend of some of the WAGs told the publication.

‘Why should they let someone like Roy Keane tell them otherwise? He’s a miserable old git.’

The insider added: ‘The girls love to show support for their partners by wearing their names on their back, or at least an England shirt. It’s a case of “Go away, grandad”.’

As for their reactions: ‘Some of them ignored it; some have been giggling at why they wind him up so much.’

Keane made his original remarks on Gary Neville’s podcast, The Overlap, when asked what he’d like to put into Room 101, removing it from existence.

‘All the wives are in their jerseys with the players’ names on the back… Wow,’ Keane began.

He argued, ‘Children is fine, but all the wives wearing their jerseys with the name on the…’, unable to finish his sentence out of frustration.

Keane was stunned that ex-Arsenal and England footballer Ian Wright didn’t agree with him, adding: ‘A year later, they’re separated, most of them!

‘And they’re all getting pictures, pointing at the Jimmy or Johnny on the back… Wow. Well, we know you’re married… It’s ridiculous. They all sit together, like, “I’ve got my jersey. Have you got your jersey?” No, I’m not having it.’

Wright insisted he ‘doesn’t mind it’, as it’s nice to see the partners feeling ‘proud’ of their husbands, but Keane wanted to know ‘what’s the point?’

‘They only do it at the World Cup. They don’t do it at Old Trafford or Anfield every week, do they?’, Keane asked. ‘So what’s with this World Cup?’

In what has been declared the most glamorous World Cup to date, the WAGs have flown over to the States to cheer on the England team.

Many of them are childhood sweethearts and have been together for years. This includes the likes of Jordan Pickford and Megan Davison, who met at secondary school and married in March 2020, plus Declan Rice‘s adorable relationship with Lauren Fryer, whom he’s been with for a decade.

Also out in the US for the tournament has been Bukayo Saka’s other half, Tolami Benson, captain Harry Kane’s wife, Kate Goodland, and Jude Bellingham’s stunning influencer girlfriend, Ashlyn Castro.

They’ve all been documenting the trip via Instagram, where they boast thousands of followers.

One WAG who has been particularly active on socials is Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins’ wife, Ellie. She poked fun at Keane’s comments in seriously sassy style before England drew against Ghana 0-0.

Taking to TikTok to reveal her outfit before the game, the 30-year-old captioned it, ‘Roy Keane do you approve?’, with fans in stitches in the comments, praising her for clapping back.

The WAGs had plenty of reasons to celebrate last night, too, as Thomas Tuchel’s squad emerged victorious with 2-0 at the final whistle.

While they finished top of Group L in New Jersey, there’s still training to be done, as the team will next play DR Congo on July 1 in Atlanta.

If England beats DR Congo, they will play either Mexico or Ecuador in the round of 16, where they’ll be hoping to advance to the quarterfinal.
