Eric Dane’s Daughter Saved His Life
Dane got emotional as he continued telling his story to Sawyer. â[My daughter] dragged me back to the boat. I was breaking down in tears. So I made sure she got back in the water with her friend and continued on with the snorkeling with the guide. But I was just heartbroken.â
Dane shares daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia with wife Rebecca Gayheart. The couple wed in 2004, and then split in 2018, but have since called off their divorce. Dane said in his interview that he and Gayheart âhave managed to become better friends and better parents.â
Eric Dane First Announced His ALS Battle in April 2025
The actor first announced his health battle in April 2025, saying in a statement, âI have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of “Euphoria” next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.â
Dane also shared with “Good Morning America” some of the symptoms that led to his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
âI started experiencing some weakness in my right hand. And I didnât really think anything of it at the time, I thought maybe Iâd been texting too much and my hand was fatigued. A few weeks later, I noticed itâd gotten a little worse. I went and saw a hand specialist, who sent me to another hand specialist. I went and saw a neurologist, and the neurologist sent me to another neurologist and said, âThis is way above my pay grade.ââ
He continued: âI have one functioning arm. ⦠My left side is functioning. My right side, [which is my dominant side], has completely stopped working. [My left arm] is going. I feel like maybe a couple, a few more months and I wonât have my left. ⦠Iâm worried about my legs.â
“Iâm angry because my father was taken from me when I was young. And now thereâs a very good chance that Iâll be taken from my girls when theyâre very young. I mean I really, at the end of the day, all I want is to just spend time with my family and work a little bit if I can.â
