Fans Rally Around Ex-NFL Player Following Tragic House Fire

Percy Harvin

Ex-NFL player Percy Harvin’s home in Florida caught fire on November 13. Sports fans are showing their love and support for the former wide receiver and his family during this difficult time.

Harvin’s Storied Career With the NFL

Harvin, a two-time national champion from Florida, started his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings in 2009. He was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year and even earned a spot on the NFC’s Pro Bowl team. By 2013, he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks. Although he was hurt for most of that season, he played in the Super Bowl and returned the opening kickoff of the second half 87 yards for a touchdown.

Overall, Harvin finished his NFL career with 4,026 receiving yards, 972 rushing yards and 27 total touchdowns.

Tragedy Strikes in Florida

One of Harvin’s neighbors captured a video of the fire engulfing the home located in Gainesville, not far from the University of Florida campus where Harvin became a college football legend.

Though it’s unclear if Harvin or his family were in the home at the time, indications are that no one was seriously harmed, according to TMZ. Authorities have not yet provided official confirmation of their status.

“I can confirm that the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a structure fire at that residence yesterday evening,” a spokesperson for local law enforcement told the outlet. “Alachua County Fire Rescue responded and handled the incident while we assisted with evacuating nearby residences and closing the roadway.”

In a recent update from TMZ, no residents or firefighters were reported to be injured, however, the house suffered smoke and water damage, while the roof sustained extensive damage.

Currently, investigators believe that a mechanical failure was the cause of the blaze.

Unfortunately, this incident follows a similar tragedy that happened to Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, who also suffered a house fire in Miami the week prior. Officials reported that no one was home at the time, no injuries have been reported, and the fire did not spread to other residences.

“We are grateful to learn that nobody was harmed in the fire at Coach Spoelstra’s residence this morning. Our thoughts, prayers, and assistance are with Spo and his family during this time,” the Heat said in a statement posted on social media.

Fans Send Prayers to the Harvin Family

Fans of Harvin flooded social media with their well wishes, remaining concerned until officials confirm the safety of everyone involved.

“fire’s wild, hope Percy’s okay,” one user wrote.

“Sending love and light to the boy Percy Harvin whose house caught fire,” another tweeted.

Someone else expressed their hope for the well-being of Harvin and his family members. “Hope no one is at home, and/or safe.”

Under a post from Florida Gators – SEC Country on Facebook, fans shared continued to share their support.

“Prayers,” someone wrote, including a “prayer hands” emoji.

“Hopefully he family are good,” another added.
