Tyrone Blackburn, the lawyer representing Fat Joe’s former hypeman, T.A. Dixon, has found himself in legal trouble of his own. Days after Blackburn filed a $20 million lawsuit against Fat Joe on Dixon’s behalf, he was picked up by New York Police officers. New York police have charged Blackburn with second-degree assault. The trouble stems from his attempt to avoid being served court documents.

According to <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.hot97.com/news/fat-joes-hypemans-attorney-tyrone-blackburn-arrested-on-assault-charges/” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Hot 97, police arrested Blackburn on June 25, but the arrest stems from an incident way back in early May. The attorney is accused of running down a process server with his vehicle in a May 12 scuffle. According to several sources, Blackburn was attempting to evade the messenger who was looking to serve him with a lawsuit. The lawsuit in question was filed by Fat Joe, whose real name is Joseph Antonio Cartagena. In the lawsuit, Cartagena accuses both Blackburn and Dixon of defamation and extortion.

It is unclear if the process server was injured in the dustup. How the charges will affect Blackburn’s ability to practice law is unknown.

While Tyrone Blackburn’s current legal drama is the first time he has been charged with a crime that we are aware of, he has had a rather interesting and controversial career as an attorney. Blackburn, who has been at the center of several high-profile cases, has been scolded by judges in the past, claims Fat Joe’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina.

<a href=”https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/35491137/fat-joe-allegations-terrance-dixon-lawsuit” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The U.S. Sun spoke with Tacopina, who called Blackburn’s integrity and ethics into question. He told the publication, “Two separate federal judges have condemned his conduct — one for filing headline-chasing lawsuits full of salacious and baseless claims, and another for making repeated legal misstatements and personal attacks in court filings.” Tacopina says his client is not intimidated.

Hip Hop fans might recognize Tacopina’s name for his work on A$AP Rocky’s case. He served as the rapper’s legal counsel during his felony assault trial. Tacopina previously worked with President Donald Trump.
