Nancy Guthrie was likely still alive when she was taken out of her Catalina Foothills home near Tucson, Arizona, retired FBI profiler Jim Clemente says.
Today, May 10, is the first mother’s day “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have been forced to spend without their beloved matriarch. Below is a sweet throwback photo of Savannah and her brother and sister with their mom.
The agent told Fox News in a May 10 interview that the proof of life is in the blood spatter that was found by the front door of the beloved grandmother’s house.
Clemente explained, “She must have aspirated and then coughed up blood with her face very close to the ground, and I don’t believe that would have happened had two people been carrying her at that point.”
FBI’s Jim Clemente Discusses the Blood Spatter Evidence; Believes Nancy Guthrie Put Up a Fight
“The fact that there’s blood spatter evidence of the victim being assaulted there, Nancy being assaulted there on the front stoop, tells me he didn’t prepare.”
Clemente then offered a theory of how the incident occurred, saying, “I believe what it means is that he threatened her with his gun when he was at her bedside, he got her to come down, and at the front door is when she realized, ‘He’s gonna take me, this is very dangerous and I should fight,’ and she did.”
He surmised, “As a result of that, she was physically assaulted about her face, her nose, her mouth. She aspirated some of that blood, she fell down to the ground, and at that point coughed up some of the blood. Some of the other blood dripped out. She was then picked up, and that’s why you see the splatter drops increase from that point, and I believe she was then hurried by another person carrying her, maybe with her face up so as to reduce the amount of blood that was coming out, and then put into a vehicle and taken from the location.”
Jim Clemente Says Camera Footage Made Nancy Guthrie Kidnapper Look Like an Amateur
Clemente analyzed the Google Nest footage that shows the suspected kidnapper approaching Guthrie’s home, and said his actions made him look unprepared and unprofessional.
“He wasn’t prepared for this camera, he had no idea what he was doing. He tried to cover it with brush. He ended up smashing and taking it, right? In the process of doing that, I believe he revealed what looked like a tattoo on his wrist, which would not have been revealed had he not – had he adequately prepared for that camera being there.”
He continued, “So, even though the prior photograph that we see potentially of him is maybe on a previous day or at least earlier than when he came back with the backpack, he did not adequately prepare for the fact that there was a camera there. And so, it tells me that he is not a sophisticated offender, a sophisticated criminal who was extremely forensically and criminally sophisticated. He was sort of fumbling his way through this. And he made other mistakes. And I believe those mistakes will directly lead to his capture.”
Clemente cited the hair the FBI is analyzing as another sign of a slip-up, before saying the culprit’s attempt at a disguise was not enough. “What he didn’t realize is that he wore a ski mask, but that allowed mustache hairs to be exposed, eyelashes, eyebrows to be exposed, and especially if he’s talking and moving around in that mask, the chances of hairs falling out are going to be increased. Had he been more sophisticated forensically, he would’ve been able to prevent that from happening, but he didn’t do that.”
The agent concluded, “It tells me this is probably a first time offender, it tells me that he didn’t really understand what he had to do.
