FBI Season 7 Finale Reveals Internal Betrayal — and Leaves One Fate Uncertain

CBS’ FBI wrapped its seventh season tonight with the adrenaline-charged finale, “A New Day.” The episode marks a temporary sendoff for the flagship series, which is set to return this fall.

The finale also arrives on the heels of bittersweet franchise news. CBS recently cancelled both “FBI Most Wanted” and “FBI International”, ending their runs despite strong followings and fan support.

Please note: The following contains spoilers from FBI Season 7, Episode 22 (‘A New Day’).

Internal Chaos and a Shocking Betrayal

The action-packed episode centered on a growing threat inside the Bureau. After Jubal (Jeremy Sisto) narrowly survived a calculated attack on a covert FBI facility, the team discovered that an anti-government group known as Forefront had infiltrated the agency.

The unexpected threat required the agents to operate in the shadows to uncover which of their colleagues were working against them. Tension built throughout the hour as Deputy Assistant Director Keane was revealed to be the mastermind behind the infiltration.

The finale reached a boiling point with a gripping firefight in the subway tunnels. a cinematic sequence that wouldn’t have felt out of place on the big screen. The action pushed the team to their limits, with Jubal continuing to operate despite a seeping arm wound, and Isobel returning to the field after surviving an explosion.

Taking Down the Traitor

By the episode’s end, the main cast emerged intact, though several background characters—fan favorites like Ian, Kelly, and Elise—faced close calls. Reynolds, once suspected of being part of Forefront, died in the chaos, and Keane’s network of double agents was dismantled.

The episode ended on an ominous note with a final and unexpected twist. After reuniting with her team at 26 Fed to celebrate their hard-fought victory, Isobel began to slur her words mid-speech and repeated herself before suddenly collapsing.

“She doesn’t have a pulse,” Maggie told Jubal, who immediately shouted for help as the screen faded to black. Although she initially walked away from the explosion, Isobel never sought medical attention—a decision that now carries potentially devastating consequences

What’s Next for the Team?

While the finale delivered its share of chaos and unanswered questions, fans still have reason to be hopeful.

In 2024, CBS granted the flagship series a three-season renewal—much to the delight of longtime viewers—securing FBI through at least Season 9. That means the show will return for Season 8 in the 2025–2026 broadcast year and continue into the 2026–2027 season.

Though Isobel’s fate remains uncertain, viewers can look forward to seeing Maggie, OA, Scola, Dani, and Jubal back in action this fall.
