First Trailer Drops for ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival

Malcolm In The Middle

The first trailer for the upcoming revival “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” has dropped, giving fans a glimpse of what they can expect from the series. The sitcom, which will air on Hulu, is set to release on April 10, 2026, as a limited miniseries of four episodes.

Until the trailer was unveiled, very little was known about the revival of the early 2000s sitcom other than the fact that it directly continues the story of the characters from the original series.

The trailer opens with Malcolm, portrayed by Frankie Muniz, revealing that he has been living a successful life having ignored his family for more than a decade. However, his parents and brothers force a reunion in the run-up to Hal and Louis’ 40th wedding anniversary.

The trailer gives fans a glimpse of all of the main characters, played by the returning cast of Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Emy Coligado.

From what is shown in the brief trailer, it appears as if the action will focus on Malcolm and his own family reintegrating with the likes of Hal, Louis, Francis, and Reese.

Bryan Cranston Opens Up on His Return to the Show

Speaking in an interview earlier this year, “Breaking Bad” star Cranston explained how he was thrilled to be able to play the comedic character again.

He said, “Slipping back into that character of Hal for me was so rewarding — I missed him. … It’s been almost 20 years since we said goodbye. And he’s a sweet, lovable man. He’s really a lovable guy, and it was fun to see all my whole family back together. It was great.”

Meanwhile, the actor also revealed that the relationships between the various characters are very different to what viewers saw the last time they were on screen together.

“You are reintroduced to this family. We left the airwaves 20 years ago. All the boys are adults with their own children,” Bryan shared. “It’s a different dynamic in that sense — and yet, do things really change with Hal and Lois? I don’t know that they do!”

One actor who won’t be returning to the revival is Erik Per Sullivan. He originally played Dewey across every episode of the original series, but didn’t pursue a career in acting after the show. He has been replaced in “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.

According to Cranston, Sullivan is currently studying for his master’s degree at Harvard University, meaning that he wasn’t available for filming.

“He’s actually going to Harvard,” Cranston shared with hosts David Spade and Dana Carvey on the ‘Fly on the Wall’ podcast. “He’s really, really smart, and he’s getting his master’s at Harvard right now.”
