Florence Pugh has recalled the awkward moment a camera broke on the set of Oppenheimer at the worst time.

The 28-year-old actress – who played Jean Tatlock – has reflected on the movie’s racy sex scene she shares with co-star Cillian Murphy (J Robert Oppenheimer), which got derailed by an issue with the crew’s equipment.

‘In the middle of our sex scene, the camera broke,’ she told a Universal panel. ‘No one knows this, but it did. ‘Our camera broke when we were both naked, and it was not ideal timing.’

The pair were left having to cover their own bodies, wrapping their arms around themselves as they waited for the situation to get resolved.

She added: ‘Cillian and I are in this room together. It’s a closed set, so we’re both holding our bodies like this.’

However, Florence decided to turn the less than ideal moment into an opportunity to learn more about the filmmaking process.

‘This is my moment to learn,’ she quipped, recalling how she turned to the person fixing the issue and asked: ‘So tell me, what’s wrong with the camera?’

Still in the nude, she joked: ‘What’s going on with the shutter here, buddy?’

She also praised the atmosphere on set with Christopher Nolan at the helm, giving a nod to the crew’s experience.

She said: ‘Every person on this set was so knowledgeable and was so ready to make this kind of movie that there was no dull moment. It was all amazing. It felt like we were lucky to be there every second of the day.’

Although the sex scenes and Florence’s nudity sparked some controversy in the movie – which was rated R in the United States – many have defended the actress and praised her.

Co-star Cillian is among them, who said she was ‘amazing’ on set, including in the intimate moments.

‘Those scenes were written deliberately. [Christopher Nolan] knew that those scenes would get the movie the rating that it got,’ he told the Sydney Morning Herald last summer.

‘And I think when you see it, it’s so f***ing powerful. And they’re not gratuitous. They’re perfect. And Florence is just amazing.’
