Former Popular SNL Star Wants Back on the Show

Pete Davidson Says He’d Return to ‘SNL’

Pete Davidson isn’t ruling out a return to “Saturday Night Live.” The comedian told People in November 2025 that he’d “go back in a heartbeat” if show creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels ever asked.

“I’d do anything for Lorne,” Davidson said. Reflecting on his October 2023 hosting appearance, he added, “I had a great time hosting. It’s always an honor and a privilege to be asked to come back.”

The 31-year-old went on to praise the iconic NBC series and its cast, calling “Saturday Night Live” “always relevant” and “a hot show” that audiences eagerly look forward to each week.

Davidson spoke candidly about his deep gratitude toward Michaels, crediting the longtime producer for launching his career. “I owe that guy my life,” he said. “He jump-started everything. So I’d do anything for Lorne, and he knows that.”

The “Bupkis” actor also reflected on his emotional farewell from “Saturday Night Live” in 2022, telling People that the show had shaped his life. “I appreciate SNL always having my back and allowing me to work on myself and grow,” he said. “Thank you to Lorne for never giving up on me or judging me, even when everyone else was. He believed in me and gave me a place I could call home.”

In the 2025 Peacock docuseries “SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night,” Davidson revealed that he struggled during his early years on the show and once asked Michaels to fire him.

“After my first year, I actually called for a meeting with Lorne, and I was like, ‘Please fire me,’” Davidson said in the series. “He’s like, ‘Why?’ And I said, ‘I don’t belong here. Everybody’s so talented and they don’t want to be my friend.’”

Michaels encouraged him to stick it out. “He said, ‘You don’t figure it out until your third or fourth year. It’s just gonna suck for three or four years,” Davidson recalled. “And he was right.”

Finding His Place on ‘SNL’

Davidson first joined “Saturday Night Live” in 2014 at age 20, making him one of the youngest cast members in the show’s history.

During an interview on The Breakfast Club in August 2025, he reflected on how being younger than most of his co-stars made it challenging to fit in.

“Everyone at SNL was 10, 15 years older than me, and I had a tough time,” he said. “They weren’t mean or anything. It’s just hard to relate. I’d be like, ‘Hey, you guys want to go smoke weed?’ And they’d say, ‘We’re having our first child or getting married next week.’”

Over time, Davidson became more open about his struggles with mental health, which helped bridge the gap between him and his colleagues. “We all respect and love each other,” he said, but admitted the show can be “competitive.”

“You got to remember, SNL is competitive,” he said. “It’s not just like a team sport. It’s who could be the best this week and have their stuff on the show.”
