Pete Davidson isnât ruling out a return to âSaturday Night Live.â The comedian told People in November 2025 that heâd âgo back in a heartbeatâ if show creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels ever asked.
âIâd do anything for Lorne,â Davidson said. Reflecting on his October 2023 hosting appearance, he added, âI had a great time hosting. Itâs always an honor and a privilege to be asked to come back.â
The 31-year-old went on to praise the iconic NBC series and its cast, calling âSaturday Night Liveâ âalways relevantâ and âa hot showâ that audiences eagerly look forward to each week.
Davidson Credits Lorne Michaels for His Career
Davidson spoke candidly about his deep gratitude toward Michaels, crediting the longtime producer for launching his career. âI owe that guy my life,â he said. âHe jump-started everything. So Iâd do anything for Lorne, and he knows that.â
The âBupkisâ actor also reflected on his emotional farewell from âSaturday Night Liveâ in 2022, telling People that the show had shaped his life. âI appreciate SNL always having my back and allowing me to work on myself and grow,â he said. âThank you to Lorne for never giving up on me or judging me, even when everyone else was. He believed in me and gave me a place I could call home.â
Pete Davidson Once Asked to Be Fired From âSNLâ
In the 2025 Peacock docuseries âSNL50: Beyond Saturday Night,â Davidson revealed that he struggled during his early years on the show and once asked Michaels to fire him.
âAfter my first year, I actually called for a meeting with Lorne, and I was like, âPlease fire me,ââ Davidson said in the series. âHeâs like, âWhy?â And I said, âI donât belong here. Everybodyâs so talented and they donât want to be my friend.ââ
Michaels encouraged him to stick it out. âHe said, âYou donât figure it out until your third or fourth year. Itâs just gonna suck for three or four years,â Davidson recalled. âAnd he was right.â
Finding His Place on âSNLâ
Davidson first joined âSaturday Night Liveâ in 2014 at age 20, making him one of the youngest cast members in the showâs history.
During an interview on The Breakfast Club in August 2025, he reflected on how being younger than most of his co-stars made it challenging to fit in.
âEveryone at SNL was 10, 15 years older than me, and I had a tough time,â he said. âThey werenât mean or anything. Itâs just hard to relate. Iâd be like, âHey, you guys want to go smoke weed?â And theyâd say, âWeâre having our first child or getting married next week.ââ
Over time, Davidson became more open about his struggles with mental health, which helped bridge the gap between him and his colleagues. âWe all respect and love each other,â he said, but admitted the show can be âcompetitive.â
âYou got to remember, SNL is competitive,â he said. âItâs not just like a team sport. Itâs who could be the best this week and have their stuff on the show.â
