‘Full House’ Stars Reveal Which Olsen Twin DISLIKED Filming the Popular Sitcom

Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen.

Fraternal twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen famously shared the role of Michelle Tanner in all eight seasons of the popular sitcom “Full House.” The Olsen siblings played the youngest daughter of the late Bob Saget’s Danny Tanner from 1987 until 1993.

In the show, Jodie Sweetin played Danny’s middle child, Stephanie Tanner, and Andrea Barber played their annoying but well-meaning next-door neighbor, Kimmy Gibbler.

Sweetin and Barber now host a podcast called “How Rude, Tanneritos!” During a recent episode of their show, called “Minisode: Fan Emails!,” the pair were answering fan-submitted questions about their time on “Full House” when they revealed which of the Olsen twins wasn’t keen on filming for the series.

Per E! News, one fan asked whether the show’s director, Joel Zwick, ever favored working with either of the Olsen twins, or if he ever considered firing either of them, Jodie Sweetin revealed that he did once favor working with Ashley.

She said, “I would say yes, there was a point when they favored working with one over the other, but it was at the beginning. It was Ashley. Mary-Kate was not… Mary-Kate did not like being, sort of, out on set, but Ashley was like ‘Oh whatevs.’ She was much more, kind of, docile about it.”

The hosts also shared that there was an issue with balancing out the Olsen twins’ scenes — largely because one would get upset if the other had more enjoyable scenes, or scenes in which they were allowed to eat sweets.

Barber said, “One would want to do a certain scene because it was more fun for them and the other one didn’t care.” Sweetin added the that production team “had to divide up the sweet eating scenes because that was the only thing that they were like ‘this isn’t fair!’”

The Twins Were a ‘Package Deal’ on the Show

The episode of “How Rude, Tanneritos!” also revealed that, despite the issues that sometimes occurred with the Olsen twins sharing Michelle Tanner’s scenes on “Full House,” they came as “a package deal” no matter what, because there is a time limit on how long a single child can work — especially bearing in mind that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were only nine months old when they started on the show.

The situation was described as follows: “When you have younger kids, you are almost always using twins, because there is no way that you could get stuff out of an infant or little kid without going over the time. You need two bodies.”

Per IMDB, Jodie Sweetin appeared in 193 episodes of “Full House,” Andrea Barber appeared in 146, and the Olsen twins appeared in a combine 386. With that in mind, Sweetin and Barber spent enough time with the sisters to be a great source of information regarding their time on the show.

There’s a new episode of Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber’s “How Rude, Tanneritos!” podcast every few days (generally between two and five).
