Kit Harington is sharing what really happened behind the scenes of his latest on-screen reunion with Sophie Turner. The âGame of Thronesâ alum spoke with E! News about working with Turner again for their new Gothic horror film âThe Dreadful,â and admitted the experience included a few awkward surprises. Harington said Turner was the one who first sent him the script, but he quickly realized their characters were romantically involved and told the outlet the dynamic âfelt very oddâ after spending years playing siblings on âGame of Thronesâ.
Harington, 38, said he immediately picked up on the shift in their on-screen relationship and knew the material would push both of them out of their comfort zone. Still, he said reuniting with Turner brought back an easy, familiar bond after eight seasons of working together.
Harington Says Filming Intimate Scenes Came With âSlightly Embarrassingâ Challenges
While opening up about returning to work with Turner, Harington also shared a funny detail from filming their kissing scenes. He revealed that Turner is âabout a foot taller,â which meant he had to stand on an apple box to reach her, calling the moment âslightly embarrassingâ but ultimately harmless.
He added that any initial awkwardness faded once they stepped onto set together. Their chemistry and longtime friendship resurfaced quickly, and Harington said working with Turner âfelt like being with family.â That sense of comfort helped them get through the more challenging scenes, even when the material pushed both actors into unfamiliar territory.
Turner has echoed similar feelings in recent interviews. In August, during an appearance on âLate Night With Seth Meyers,â she explained that she suggested Harington for the role before realizing the script required multiple romantic scenes between them. After rereading it, she joked that the sudden shift from siblings to lovers made her think, âOh, shoot, thatâs my brother.âÂ
Turner also admitted filming their first kiss was much harder than expected. She said the two were âboth retchingâ from discomfort and described the moment as âvileâ and the âworstâ part of the experience. Even so, she and Harington agreed the script was too strong to pass up.
Their âGame of Thronesâ Bond Made the Reunion Surreal but Meaningful
Harington and Turner starred together for eight seasons as Jon Snow and Sansa Stark, forming one of the most iconic sibling dynamics in the series. That history made stepping into the romantic tension of âThe Dreadfulâ a surreal shift for both actors. Earlier this year, Turner shared that their sibling-like dynamic still feels natural, and Harington admitted their relationship on set briefly returned to how it used to be.
Despite the uncomfortable moments, both stars said the project gave them a real chance to reconnect professionally. The film follows Turnerâs character Anne, whose life unravels after the return of a man from her past, played by Harington. Directed by Natasha Kermani, the film also stars Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence OâFuarain and Jonathan Howard. A release date has not yet been announced, per The Independent.Â
Looking back on the experience, Harington said the awkward beginning did not overshadow the reunion. As he put it, working with Turner again âfelt like being with family.â
