King’s potential exit comes amid massive restructuring at CBS News led by new Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, as reported by The Independent. The network has begun large-scale layoffs, including the closure of its Race and Culture Unit, which was founded in 2020 to help ensure accurate and inclusive storytelling.

The New York Times reported on October 28 that nearly 100 CBS positions and an additional 2,000 roles across the parent company, Paramount, are being cut. The entire CBS Saturday Morning team, including anchors Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, was reportedly let go. The streaming editions of both CBS Evening News and CBS Mornings have also been discontinued.

The Daily Mail reported that Weiss, 41, addressed staff this week, calling it an “enormously difficult day.” Paramount chairman David Ellison echoed her message, explaining in a note to staff that some roles were being phased out as the company shifted priorities toward growth.
