George and Amal Clooney forced to evacuate £6,000,000 home in France as wildfires spread

George and Amal Clooney have been forced to evacuate their idyllic French estate as devastating wildfires continue to tear through southern Europe.

The Hollywood star, 65, and human rights lawyer Amal, 48, left their sprawling Provence home alongside their nine-year-old twins after flames threatened the area around the village of Brignoles.

Rather than quietly slipping away, the couple shared an emotional message with Brignoles mayor Didier Brémond, making clear their concern wasn’t just for their own home.

‘Dear Didier, at this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,’ they wrote.

‘As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise two things. First, we hope you and the people of our city are safe, and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole.

‘We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.’

A representative for the actor confirmed the evacuation and the letter to People.

The Clooneys’ future in the area has become uncertain as wildfires continue to rage across parts of France, Spain, and Greece amid scorching temperatures, prolonged drought and fierce winds.

Around 3,000 people have been evacuated from the Brignoles area alone, while hundreds of thousands more residents and tourists have been forced to flee elsewhere across France and Spain.

Elsewhere in southern Europe, firefighters continue battling multiple blazes, with Greece suffering tragic losses as crews confront extreme conditions.

The emergency is particularly heartbreaking for George and Amal because the Provence estate isn’t simply a holiday bolthole.

The couple made France their primary home in 2021 after buying Domaine du Canadel, an 18th-century wine estate reportedly worth €7million.

Set across 425 acres, the property boasts olive groves, a lake, formal lavender gardens, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a 25-acre vineyard that has since become a genuine passion project.

After teaming up with winemaker Laurence Berlemont, the Clooneys even released their own white and rosé wines in 2024, embracing life in Provence.

George has repeatedly spoken about why he wanted to swap Hollywood for the French countryside, revealing the move was driven by a desire to give his children as normal a childhood as possible.

Speaking to Esquire last year, he admitted he worried about raising them in Los Angeles.

‘A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it,’ he said.

‘But now, for them, they’re not on their iPads. They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.’

He also explained that France offered something Hollywood never could.

‘I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood,’ George said.

‘France – they kind of don’t give a s*** about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.’

Now, as flames continue to threaten the region they chose to call home, the Clooneys face an agonising wait to discover whether the estate they built their family life around has survived.

The Clooney’s aren’t the only celebrities affected by the fires, with Georgia Toffolo and her husband, James Watt, fleaing their French family holiday mere hours before ‘apocalyptic’ wildfires hit and forced thousands to evacuate.

Taking to her Instagram Story this weekend, the influencer expressed how ‘lucky’ they are to have left when they did, recalling how they slept at the airport overnight.

She continued: ‘It’s so awful. So many firefighters have been injured; it’s just a really awful situation. It was just even when we were sat at lunch, it was growing in velocity.’
