George Clooneyâs older sister has passed away at the age of 65. People confirmed that Adelia “Ada” Zeidler has died, with the outlet sharing a statement directly from Clooney about the bravery shown by his sister during her battle with cancer.
George Clooney Leads Tribute to Sister Adelia Zeidler
According to People, Zeidler passed away on Friday, December 19, although news of her death only broke today. Hollywood icon Clooney confirmed the news to People in a statement, where he described his sister as a role model and explained how she had battled cancer with positivity.
“My sister, Ada, was my hero,” Clooney told People in a statement. “She faced down cancer with courage and humor. Iâve never met anyone so brave. Amal and I will miss her terribly.”
Zeidler was born a year before Clooney in 1960 to Nina Bruce and Nick Clooney and the pair were reportedly very close and have been spotted together in public, with a notable appearance at Clooneyâs wedding to Amal Clooney in 2014.
Her obituary reveals that she died “peacefully surrounded by the people she loved” while at the St. Elizabeth Healthcare hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky.
The obituary goes on to pay tribute to Zeidler, describing her as a âtalented artist, [who] shared her skills as an elementary art teacher at Augusta Independent School for several years.â
It continues, âIn high school, her academic achievements qualified her to be a National Merit Scholar. Her love for reading connected her with other readers in a local book club. She was also a member of the Augusta Art Guild and was a past grand marshal of Augustaâs Annual White Christmas Parade.”
The Family Adelia Zeidler Leaves Behind
Zeidler married her husband, Norman Zeidler, in 1987 in their hometown of Augusta, Kentucky. Clooney was involved in the wedding and made a reading during the church ceremony. Norman died in 2004 from a heart attack.Â
According to the obituary, Adelia subsequently remarried a man named Kenny and has several children along with other family members who survive her.
It reads, âIn addition to her parents, she leaves behind her beloved children, Nick Zeidler and Allison Zeidler Herolaga and her husband, Kenny; her brother, George Clooney and his wife, Amal; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.â
Her funeral will be held on December 22 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Maysville, with memorials able to be posted to the Knoedler Memorial Library.
