In an interview with Magic Radio in the UK, Butler shared how director Dean DeBlois and the Universal team surprised him by including a dedication to his mom in the movieâs credits and yep, weâre already tearing up.

While chatting about the movie, Butler explained he was excited for Margaret to see it, but had a feeling she might not make it. âIf Stoick had a mum, that would have been my mum,â he said, calling her âstrong, fiery, graceful and beautiful,â according to People. You can practically hear the pride in his voice; and the ache too.
Butlerâs character, Stoick, is all about bravery, legacy, and family⦠which makes this dedication even more meaningful. And the fact that the filmmakers quietly added the tribute without telling him first? Cue the waterworks. âIt was just so beautiful,â he continued. âI couldn’t believe they did it, and it just shows the heart of Dean and that production.â

DeBlois told The Hollywood Reporter that he âproposed it to the studio to see how they felt about it before telling [Gerard],â adding that he âknew that the loss of his mother was a deeply felt wound and that he was having a tough time recovering from it.â As for the decision itself? DeBlois said, âto honor her with a dedication in the credits just seemed like the right thing to do.â That simple act of compassion? It matters.
