Gogglebox star Josh Tapper has revealed he has proposed to his longtime girlfriend Hannah.

The 26-year-old politician, who joined the show in its first season in 2013, announced the wedding news on his Instagram Stories, resharing his friends’ congratulatory messages.

His sister Amy Tapper, 24, could barely contain her excitement and declared on the social media site that she now ‘officially’ had a sister.

On a picture of a beaming Josh and Hannah flashing her sparkler, Amy wrote: ‘The phone call I’ve been waiting for and the best news in the entire world.

‘My best friends are engaged. I officially have a sister.’

The former Channel 4 star continued: ‘Welcome to the family Han, couldn’t wish for anyone better.’

Josh has a blockbuster year ahead of him because he has also launched a major political career in addition to the wedding.

He has been selected as the Labour parliamentary candidate for Hertsmere in Hertfordshire and will be going up against Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden in the general election.

Bookies have predicted he will be successful, with William Hill revealing his odds are at 5/2.

William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps, said: ‘This was a very unexpected move from Labour, but Hertsmere has only ever been represented by a Conservative MP, so the decision to alter their approach can only be seen as a positive.

‘Josh Tapper would be the first Labour candidate to win over the constituency and his odds of 5/2 to win the seat at the next General Election suggest that he has every chance of doing so.

Josh has been eyeing up Whitehall for several years and left Gogglebox in 2018 because he had been offered a Cabinet Office job.

At the time he told The Mirror that the door had been left open for him to return, but that ‘the focus is now very much on my job.’

Josh and Amy were joined by their parents mum Nikki and dad Jonathan on Gogglebox.

They all became fan favourites for their stint, which lasted for five years until 2018.

Gogglebox is available to stream on Channel 4.
